Good value for the price, but hit-or-miss Overall, this was a pretty good stay considering what we paid, but it definitely has its pros and cons. The highlights were easily the pools and the drinks, which were great. What really made the stay comfortable was the amazing staff—everyone was incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout our trip. On the downside, the accommodations and dining need work. The rooms are slightly dated, and the bathroom was looking a bit rough. The food was definitely the weakest point—there wasn't much selection, and the quality wasn't good (it really wouldn't be ideal for kids either). Also, keep in mind that if you travel in June, the beach is essentially unusable due to the heavy sargassum seaweed buildup. If you get a good deal and go in with the right expectations, it's an amazing budget-friendly option.

We are about halfway through our two week stay, and in this first week, all I'm wondering is. What hotel are the reviews talking about? Room: Our room has several lights that simply don't work, the AC works half of the time, and the porch has many holes in the thatching caused by the coati running around. Cleanliness: We have seen cockroaches running rampant around Festival. The rooms are kept clean, but the public spaces are being neglected. Food: The food here is incredibly limited. They have four restaurants for dinner and you only have the option of one per day. We've been here in Mexico a week and I haven't been able to have any Mexican food, only Italian and French. The French restaurant was great. The snack bar and bar by the smaller pool (as well as the towel service) has not been open once, which is disappointing since that means you have to walk all the way to the black and white in order to grab a drink, and then all the way to the other pool (which is a trek) in order to get a towel. Inconveniences: There was no warning that the spa would be entirely under construction, which is partially why we booked here in order to have a relaxing spa getaway experience. The staff is a mix of friendly and apathetic, not attempting to make the experience unique at all. This hotel is inconsistent. I wish I was at the hotel everyone else has seemed to experience in these reviews. This has been a very disappointing honeymoon :/

Long story short: We were there recently with a 3 and 5 year old. 1. No use of the beach as the sea weed is insane. Basically only months where it is ok are from Oct-Dec we were told. 2. In 10 days, there were 2 occasions where there was vomit in the pool. One time it was there for 3 days where noone cleaned it up. 3. Privacy is questionable as we had staff enter our room at 1:30 am due to an AC problem next door. Our kids were sleeping and we were in pure shock that this happened. 4. There was racoon poop on our balcony for 3 days. Noone cared to clean it up until we complained. This is a 5 star hotel. Cleanliness shouldn't be an issue but our room was in need if a deep clean! 5. Photographers are way too expensive, around 600$ for 39 photos. I wouldn't go here again as I've been in Cuba who is a way lesser standard than Mexico with way better experience. We were expecting for a 5 star hotel and amount of money we paid a better service and standard. Very dissapointing.

The BlueBay Grand Esmeralda, Riveria Maya, Cancun, Mexico needs more sun loungers! There was so much empty space around the pool and beach area to nicely accommodate all of us but there were not enough loungers. Tourists would wake up early, reserve their spot with their hotel towels and only return hours later causing frustration for the rest of us who were ready to use loungers but couldn’t because they were reserved. This caused the issue of towels to be removed or stolen because there was a $30 fee for towels not returned at check out. This problem could so easily be solved inexpensively by having more loungers. This is a complaint I’ve read online and heard at the resort, so the resort should listen to comments to promote word of mouth advertising and so they have repeat customers. The resort itself was beautiful, food and entertainment was great, service was great, servers went above and beyond! Clean and well taken care of. We travelled with my sons and their room had a bad sewer smell all week. Our rooms were older as well but clean. The walking to the beach was also quite the hike. If you’re having trouble walking, this is probably not the resort for you.

I was supposed to stay a week here but only lasted 24hrs. It took almost two hours to check in and there were only two people in front of us. When I got to my room it was very dated and unsanitary. I feel it wasn’t turned over just cleaned and not cleaned well. There was open sugar packets on the counter and a used towel hanging from the shower door. The pillows smelt of body odor bad. There was mold behind the bathroom mirror photo added. The other guest were very loud and extremely inebriated. It was like spring break on a Monday night. The staff was not very friendly and accommodating, but I don’t blame them because of obnoxiousness of the clientele, this resort caters too. I’ve stayed in many resorts in the area and this is by far one of the worst. Not only did I immediately check out and move to a different resort. I left that resort with food poisoning. The buffet was extremely unsanitary. They serve hotdog and hamburgers for dinner. The alcohol options seem to be mostly well alcohol. I did not drink. The grounds are nice and the wildlife is abundant. It seems that this resort at one time must’ve been nice in the early 70s. An employee walked into our room without knocking and by the time I made it to the door they said nothing just stared at me. I do have to note that upon checking out the manager did apologize.

The fives ocean front Puerto Morelos is almost perfect ..... First the service and staff are outstanding. Mariel, Diego, Rodrigo, and stepheny in Marley's kitchen were fantastic. The exterior facilities pools beaches restaurants gym bars are all top notch. The hotel is a small boutique but has more than enough activities for everyone two beautiful clean pools. A beach that has nets and a crew to clean the seaweed that is invading much of the Caribbean. The beach does have biting ants and their are mosquitos so bring bug spray. Otherwise Plenty of cabanas and chairs and great service . The food at Marley's was great. Drinks were weak but they are usually dealing with all inclusive crowd so that's not a surprise. Spa was great with incredible massages. and we even enjoyed a sound bath meditation something I've never done. Everything was priced well not cheap but not expensive The problem is the rooms. We stayed in room 510. Ocean view suite with balcony and jetted tub. While pretty on the outside and at first glance some details underwhelm and undermine the 5 star aspirations a faint smell of mildew throughout the property and hallways, poor paint jobs on finishes, cheap materials on closets, linens with holes including on blankets and day beds on the balcony. Balcony Jacuzzi needed it's jets cleaned, but also being slow to warm and with weak pressure and painted over controls. We had to have our air conditioner worked on 3x and our room was never cool. Our sliding door to the balcony handle broke and it jammed open unable to close letting in mosquitos and heat. Maintenance did respond quickly. So in short a fantastic hotel with one glaring issue room maintainince. Room cleanliness was excellent and the staff cleaning dona great job. Lastly the town of Puerto Morelos is amazing quaint filled with locals and a far cry from Cancun. Must trys are Puerto Knaa, pirata, and the speakeasy

Set in a beautiful, sleepy beach town with no high rises, the location felt incredibly intimate and special. Beautiful, clean resort that still feels intimate and boutique despite having plenty of space, pools, and bars. The only downside was check-in — it took a few hours and there was a pretty aggressive vacation program sales pitch when we really just wanted to get changed after traveling. The service completely made the experience though. Christian was honestly the highlight of the trip — incredibly attentive, friendly, and always on top of everything before we even had to ask. Huge shoutout to Elvis, Giovanni, Rodrigo, Ian, Felix, and the spa team (Noe and Mary) as well for being so welcoming and making everything feel easy and relaxing. We never had to wait long for drinks or service anywhere.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here! It’s a nice mid-sized hotel right on the beach. We got a suite and the room was very spacious. We liked that it had a big refrigerator to store left overs and drinks. Our bed was very comfortable! Our kids slept on the pull out sofa in the other room. The mattress was particularly uncomfortable, which isn’t so surprising since all sofa beds are sort of like that. Also, they are kids and I remember plenty of sleepovers on the floor growing up, so they aren’t picky, but wanted to call it out because even they thought it wasn’t comfy. I added a blanket as a layer between them and the springs and it was fine. We enjoyed the breakfast at the hotel! I wish I could remember the name of the woman that checked us in, but I really liked her (she had glasses and maybe some tattoos?). Anyway, she was great and a friendly face that would check in on us and asked us about our trip. Shout out to her! The only reason that I took a star off is due to the beds on the beach. My family and I went to the beach around 9:30/10:00. It wasn’t crowded at all and there was a whole row of about 6 chairs that were empty. Most had towels on them, but no one was around, so I figured they must have been from the day before and we sat down. My family went in the water and I sat and read my book for about 20 minutes. I then got up to check on my family and take some photos. When I got back to the chair where I had been sitting, and where all of our stuff was, I was confronted by another guest who said that I was sitting in his chair. He said he had put towels down at 7:00am on 4 chairs and I needed to move my stuff because they were his. I had been there at this point for at least a half hour and hadn’t seen him at all. I was confused, but then another guest told me he had a similar interact with a different guest the day before. Apparently people put down a towel at 7:00am and then it’s theirs for the whole day whether they are using it or not. This is frustrating/confusing for guests that don’t do this because there is no where to sit on the beach then if you show up any time after 8:00am as they all have towels on them. It would be great if staff could figure out a way to better monitor this so these chairs don’t go unused for hours at a time when someone else could use them. While this was an interaction with another guest (no issues with the staff), it just bummed me out. We ended up getting my family out of the water and we headed back to our room since there were no other chairs without towels (plenty of them without people on them). Anyway, just wanted to give this feedback!

We stayed at this resort for a week, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by Diego, who truly made our stay seamless. He ensured that every single request we had was taken care of, and honestly, I can’t say enough good things about him. His level of service, attention to detail, and genuine care went far beyond expectations. Yoe is an incredible soul who consistently went above and beyond in everything she did, always with a smile and great energy. Giovanni was also extremely helpful at La Mare restaurant, where the food deserves a solid 10/10—absolutely exceptional. Overall, the level of service at this resort is unlike anything I’ve experienced before. The food is outstanding, the staff is remarkable, and the beach is one of the nicest I’ve seen. I highly recommend this resort and would not hesitate to return.

Our server in the restaurant we dined for the most part was Fernando. He was excellent in every way, communication, service, dedication to his position. He went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of in every way, every time. I can say the same for the other waiters we had, but when he was working his shift,we asked to be sit at his station because we knew the service was going to be great. The best restaurant we ate at while we were here was the downstairs ground floor restaurant Romarley. The food was always great, better to our dining preference that compares to back home. Overall this was a good resort,we had some problems, but everything was addressed so all is good! Will recommend to anyone if you just want to relax, it doesn't have activities like most, but that's the kind of resort it is, the staff went out of their way to accommodate.

The experience and Jorge the butler was great! Food was hit or miss depending on the restaurant. Bartenders were great, the drinks were always good. Pool staff were very attentive and friendly. Would definitely come back for the atmosphere. Pools were clean and very nice, alway chairs for us to sit at. Not much beach as the seaweed came up and took over the beach the second day we were here so we were not able to swim in the ocean. All in all a great place for a vacation and can’t thank Jorge or the staff enough!

Friends invited is to partake in their membership and we had a great time. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed, spectacular view from the roomy balcony which featured a jet tub. The layout is great with the pools and beach just a few steps from the room. Four different pool areas provides family pools, a party pool, or a more laid back adult pool. We had a blast doing water aerobics with Yael, Rafael and Manuel (not sure I got all the names right)! The restaurants are easy to get to and we had excellent meals. My wife especially loved the buffet with a huge daily selection. Prestige restaurant and the poolside bistro provided us with excellent service and very good food. We also had a spectacular meal at the Blue Moon, again with excellent service. Jorge was our butler and he is a gem. He facilitated a room change, kept on top of our reservations and made sure we had everything we needed. One of our friends was very sick the first night (not from anything at the resort). Jorge immediately arranged for medical attention and stayed well after his work day to ensure that she was taken care of. The other staff were extremely pleasant and attentive, especially Ricardo and a new taller gent at the pool, Angel and the servers at the Prestige lounge. All in all a great time.

This place was so much fun! The staff really makes the experience what it is though. Our butler, Sebastian, and his helper, Claudia, were great and made sure we had everything we needed! Elizabeth was truly the life of the events at the Privilege pool and for the evening events. She was so sweet! Ricardo and Freddy at the Priviledge Pool Bar were friendly and made sure we always had drinks! And Sergio from the night time pool bar was a great bartender as well. I didn’t catch his name DJ that was out at the pool bar every evening was also great. All of the staff here was attentive, friendly, and made our trip one to remember!

My stay at Ocean Coral & Turquesa was absolutely unforgettable. We stayed for 10 days, and every single day was filled with amazing service, great food, and the best energy — but what truly made our trip special were the incredible staff members. Juan quickly became our favorite bartender. From day one, he made us feel completely at home. It wasn’t just that his drinks were perfect every time — it was his personality. Even if we were just walking past and not stopping for anything, he would always smile and say hi. That small gesture meant so much and made the resort feel personal and welcoming. Juan has such genuine, positive energy, and you can tell he truly cares about the guests’ experience. He honestly felt like a friend by the end of our stay. Antonio at the pool bar was equally amazing. He consistently went above and beyond, bringing drinks directly to us and making sure we were always taken care of. His hospitality was top-tier — so inviting, friendly, and full of life. He kept the pool vibes fun and exciting, surprising us with creative drinks and always maintaining the best energy. He truly elevated our pool days and made them unforgettable. We also have to mention the Mexican restaurant — it was our absolute favorite! We didn’t catch the staff’s names, but every single person working there was incredible. The service was warm and attentive, and the food was so delicious that we genuinely could have eaten there every single night of our 10-day stay. It was hands-down our favorite dining experience at the resort. Overall, the staff at Ocean Coral & Turquesa made this trip so special. The hospitality, kindness, and energy we experienced are the reason we would return in a heartbeat. Antonio at the pool area Gustavo and Eduardo too at main bar Alejandro And Henry have all been excellent. Particularly Antonio has checked in on us often and made sure our drinks were full and delicious. He’s been extremely attentive and has suggested delicious drinks when we haven’t been able to make up our minds. Truly TOP TIER SERVICE! It’s been super worth it to upgrade to “privilege” they’ve really rolled out the red carpet. Carlos our butler has checked in on us in person several times each day and made reservations and activities hassle-less and easy. Overall our stay has been relaxing and fun facilitated by the incredible staff at the resort.

Had such a great experience at Tokyo! Elizabeth and Aurora made the night even better with their friendly, attentive service. The show was amazing — so fun and entertaining, it had everyone laughing. We went to the mall bar and angel, valerio, and gloria were keeping us well hydrated and were very attentive! Talked with them about where we are from and had “almost” a whole conversation in spanish since my spanish is not the best but we managed and they all spoke very good english and were very easy to understand. They all were excellent bartenders! At the buffet Caribe, Manuel was fantastic with keeping our tequila flowing and enjoyed conversations in spanish with him. He was very pleasant and took wonderful care of us! We hope to see him again before we leave. We hung out at the pool bar by the Captain Morgan Buffet and Angel took very good care of us everyday that we were there! He refilled our drinks and always checked on us when we got “thirsty”! He talked with us and we got to know him very well!

I recently stayed at the Barceló Maya Caribe for a week and have nothing but great things to say about the resort. Starting with the room—it was simple, but very clean and comfortable. The food was excellent, with lots of variety. It was also nice having access to the other resorts, especially if you were looking for even more buffet options. All of the à la carte restaurants were delicious. I recommend going to guest services to make reservations as soon as you arrive, as they fill up quickly. The gym was very well equipped, with plenty of cardio machines, free weights, and equipment. Victor was extremely helpful, and I really enjoyed his yoga class. A big shoutout to the entertainment team as well—they always had something fun going on by the pool (Joseph, Gabriel, and Claudia)! Overall, a great experience—I would definitely return.

Carlota give great service at tropical buffet! Fanarda is nice as well. Pools are a little bit cold and the beach lack of sand in multiple areas this year, so we could see and feel the ciment. Otherwise the resort is nice, big, family and kids friendly, the slide area is particularly awesome! There is a club if you like to party as long as your not getting cold easily because the air conditionning is working so well that i couldn't stay inside more then 10 minute! 😅 But I'm always the one to be freezing so maybe don't give to much credit to that last comment, i looked like i was the only one freezing while others were dancing and having fun. The japanese restaurant Tokyo is sooo delicious with the fire show it always captivate me! 😋 Anyways awesome vacations overall.

The setting is unbeatable—Caribbean Sea views, tropical vibes, and easy access without leaving the resort pool zone. It’s perfect for a relaxed midday meal, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite between swims or enjoying a full buffet spread. What really elevates the experience is the outstanding service from the team. Teresa Chable stands out as an incredibly positive, hardworking server who brings such warmth and energy to every table. She makes you feel genuinely welcomed and goes above and beyond to ensure everything is just right—her enthusiasm turns a simple lunch into a highlight of the day. Aureliano Chan is another gem at the grill; his awesome attitude and attentive service make you feel right at home. And shoutout to Maria Choe for her part in the team—her contributions help keep the operation smooth and welcoming, adding to the friendly, efficient atmosphere that makes Grill Palmeras a go-to spot. The food is solid: generous portions of grilled goodies, tasty buffet options, and fresh flavors that hit the spot in the Mexican heat. It’s not overly fancy, but that’s the charm—reliable, delicious, and fun in a beachside setting. If you’re staying at or visiting the Barceló Maya resorts, I highly recommend stopping by Grill Palmeras for lunch. The combination of great grilled food, prime location, and exceptional staff like Teresa, Aureliano, and Maria makes it a winner. Definitely worth it—5 stars for the service alone!

The barcelo was a wonderful experience for my family and I. All the staff were very personable and made us all feel welcome (even my 8 month old baby). As soon as we walked in and they saw our baby they asked if we needed a crib and had it set up for us. They were also very friendly with our 6 year old. We went to a few of the restaurants that they had on the resort. Specifically the service at Santa Fe was excellent. Jorge was our service and while being extremely busy was very attentive to our table. We also enjoyed Mare Notsrum. The service there was also phenomenal.

This is the best resort for your money. great food, endless activities, friendly staff, nice rooms with balconies and great AC. there is something for everyone here. I did a bunch of diving as well, beautiful reefs and super nice dive staff. overall such a great place. I played volleyball with Alex Rodriguez and he was the best!! super fun and great staff. there’s always something to do, eat, and drink!!

My recent stay at Barceló Maya Beach in Playa del Carmen was nothing short of phenomenal. This was my second time visiting—my first was in 2024 for a wedding, and this return trip, from May 22 to May 28, was to celebrate my 50th birthday with friends and family. I can truly say this experience exceeded all expectations. From the moment I checked in to the day I checked out, everything was seamless and welcoming. I stayed in the Premium Level, where I had the pleasure of meeting two amazing staff members, Stephany and Marianna. They were consistently supportive, attentive, and genuinely kind throughout my stay. Coordinating a group of 24 guests can be challenging, but the staff made it feel effortless. Every guest was greeted with warm smiles and refreshing welcome drinks, setting the tone for an incredible experience. The level of hospitality at this resort is truly top-tier. I would like to give special recognition to Arturo Salgado and Julio Castellanos They are both managers whom exemplify excellence in customer service. Their entire management team exemplifies outstanding service. A heartfelt thank you as well to my event planner, Christian Mendoza whose dedication and attention to detail helped bring my birthday celebration to life. With the support of Natalie and the team, they created an unforgettable experience that I will cherish forever. From the restaurants, La Trattoria and the Mexican restaurant were all excellent. The lunch Resturant at Captain Morgan, and Maya Tropical breakfast spot, and others were wonderful accommodations our large party . To every staff member we encountered, everyone played a role in making this celebration so special. The resort grounds were always clean, beautifully maintained, and inviting. We also enjoyed dining at both the Italian and Mexican restaurants, which were excellent and accommodating for our group. Every detail, from service to atmosphere, was exceptional. To Ron in the Transportation Department thanks for organizing my guest list airport travel. I feel incredibly blessed and grateful to have shared this milestone birthday with such wonderful people at such an amazing resort. Finally a special heart felt thank You to Estheer Morales who helped me through this journey. Wow! What a phenomenal resort. On top of the amazing premium room and beautiful well kept resort the service in the buffet is wonderful. Fidelio and Selene are incredible. Selene is always on top of her game and offers amazing service. She knew all of my families names and her and Fidelio would always greet us with a smile. Before I would even sit down my latte and juice would be waiting for me. I would never have to ask for a second one because Selene could read my mind. Fabulous 5 star service. We will definitely be back.

Mexico lindo - Gustavo odorio was great! Thankful for his service and his recommendations on food. Service was great! Tacos appetizers were great. Green sauce was spicy so only order if you like spicy, but it was good in small amounts. The steak was great. Corn soup and tortilla soup was just average.

Recently returned from a 7 day stay at the resort. The entire resort is well maintained and very clean. Staff is friendly but few understand the English language. Used my google translator. Once the resort is figured out , it is very easy to move about. There are many maps of the whole resort around but because it is so large, the map is difficult to read. People with walk Issues may encounter difficulties getting around. The bus going throughout is a lifesaver but still lots of walking. I would not rate this resort as a 5 Star for a number of reasons. The beach is the worst I’ve ever encountered. The water was beautiful but the ocean floor is uneven and extremely difficult to get in and out. Pools were beautiful. The buffet food was okay for a day or 2 but the same food each day. They use so much pasta in different forms and I was disappointed to see the pizza crust came from a bag. Eating gluten free was extremely hard. The Bandit buffet is better than the larger buffet but not open in the evening. Stokers lounge offers a small menu and we found chicken wings here.

Awesome experience! Our 3rd visit in 3 years and would definitely return again. The rooms were VERY nice, big and clean, with keys built into your wristband. The room fridge was stocked every day with beer, soda and water. It also had a coffee maker. We got chocolate treats a few times at bed time, a nice touch! The restaurant reservation system was very quick and easy. The a la carte restaurants were great! Super service, excellent food and really nice bars outside each one for a pre-dinner drink. We really liked the Italian and Steakhouse meals, and the Japanese had a fun show/meal experience. The buffets were also pretty good with tons of choices, we never got bored of the food. The breakfast buffets were good, but it was the only time I thought the service was hit-or-miss (not always great). The pool and beach areas are HUGE, well maintained/cleaned, and tons of chairs. If you want to get away and relax, there is an adults-only quiet pool. It has a bar and bathrooms, and additionally you can rent a covered daybed, if desired. Good wifi throughout. There are lots of pool bars for adults. For the kids there are several huge pools specifically for them with slides and play areas, they looked like perfect fun. The bars all readily handed out big plastic water bottles, handy to maintain hydration. There are a ton of things to do, as this property is quite large. At the Mall there is a sports bar with a large screen theater for watching big events (we saw a playoff game). The food there is quite good also. There is also bowling (fee) and a free putt-putt course. Beach volleyball everyday was good (a court at each resort). There is a HUGE gym with nice equipment. The Entertainment staff does a good job providing some fun/entertaining games. Snorkeling/swimming with the sea turtles (and fish) is super cool. They are found at the Palace resort straight out from the volleyball area. The turtles are there every day, this is my wife's favorite experience every time we go here. There is also a pier near the dolphin area that has schools of fish all around the end. Of coarse there are lots of additional wildlife like iguanas and birds, but we saw spider monkeys several times around the buffet building at the Beach Resort ... that was pretty neat. As stated before, the complex is super huge so be prepared to walk a bit if you want to explore/experience the whole thing. However they do have buses that continuously travel between all the resort areas, and they are double-decker so it can be a fun way to look around.

We stayed at The Fives Beach Hotel & Residences in Playa del Carmen from March 2–7 and had an absolutely amazing time. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming everywhere we went. The accommodations were comfortable and well maintained, and the resort itself is beautiful and easy to enjoy. The food throughout the resort was consistently great, with lots of options and something for everyone in our family. One of the biggest highlights of our stay was the kids camp. Our 6-year-old absolutely loved it. She would check the kids club activity schedule and look forward to deciding when she wanted to hang out with mom and dad and when she wanted to go join the fun at the club. The staff there were fantastic and created such a fun and welcoming environment for the kids. They did some really creative crafts and activities, and our daughter made several great friends during the week. It was honestly one of the most memorable parts of the trip for her. Unfortunately I can’t remember all of the staff members’ names from the kids club, but they truly made a big impression on our family and were a major highlight of our stay. Overall we had a wonderful experience and would absolutely recommend The Fives to families visiting Playa del Carmen. We hope to come back again.

Our stay at The Fives was absolutely incredible, and one of the highlights of our entire trip was spending our days relaxing on the Bali beds by the beach. While the beach itself isn’t perfect due to the seaweed in the water, the exceptional service more than made up for it. The real stars of our vacation were Jonathan and Ricardo. From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Their attentiveness, friendliness, and genuine care turned an already wonderful vacation into an unforgettable experience. They weren’t just our waiters—they became part of our vacation family. Every day they greeted us with smiles, remembered our preferences, kept the drinks flowing, and made us laugh. They truly made us feel special and cared for. It’s rare to find service that leaves such a lasting impression, but Jonathan and Ricardo did exactly that. They are a huge asset to The Fives and a major reason we can’t wait to return. If you’re staying here, do yourself a favor and reserve a Bali bed—you’ll be treated like royalty. We just returned home from our full week at The Fives, and it was great. It has all the usual trappings of a family-friendly all inclusive, but also amazing activities that made it feel like a wellness retreat! Huge beautiful beach, multiple pools, plenty of restaurants, but also how-to macrame class, sunset meditations, poolside ice baths, Temazcal (go just trust me!), and at least 3 hours of different fitness classes six mornings of the week. There was also a ton of nature on the over-sized grounds so you could walk through the plaza with music, shops, bars, and restaurants or cut through the cool green jungle path to encounter monkeys, lemers, iguanas and more! This was not at all your usual all-inclusive it was unique in the best ways, and we look forward to being there again!

This was our first time at The Fives and my first time in an all inclusive resort. Absolutely loved everything from all the beautiful landscapes and restaurants. Her smile welcomed like sunshine through glass doors, her hospitality made strangers feel at home, and her integrity for the job showed in every detail, every conversation, every moment. Because of Araceli, the Fives became more than just a destination it became an experience I’ll never forget. And Ricardo, our ambassador, also made our stay feel special in every way. He made sure we were taken care of through every moment possible, always checking in with kindness and professionalism. His attention, his effort, and the way he represented the Fives did not go unnoticed. We truly appreciated him as well. Together, Araceli and Ricardo showed us what true hospitality looks like. People may remember the beauty of the resort, the views, the atmosphere, the elegance but I’ll remember the people whose kindness made it all feel real. They reminded me that the true greatness of the Fives is not found in the building itself, but in the people like them who make the Fives who they are.

Amazing resort, the food is incredible my favorite was the Japanese ala carte. The buffets offer delicious food with a wide variety of food. Highlight was definitely the snorkeling the best I've done. I have paid for worse on excursions. The bartender by the back bar on the beach is the best, the lobby bar has a wide variety specialty cocktails. One downfall is the coffee bar is a fare walk in the morning. Spent hours floating down the lazy river and the wildlife is spectacular every morning we seen all sorts including monkeys everywhere, the night wildlife was always entertaining with the racoons. The people were all spectacular. It's very large but the shuttle service is great, we walked everywhere, logged 95kms in 7 days. Would highly recommend and would most definitely return.

Came here for a week on our honeymoon! Our suite was absolutely enormous and was cleaned quickly, efficiently and the in room mini bar was topped up daily. Food in the buffets were fantastic everyday and consistently great all the time. The pool and pool bar were never too busy and there was always places to lie in the sun and there was always enough staff behind the swim up bar. Beach was closed due to excess seaweed but we knew this was a potential issue but it didn't really put us off from visiting the beach bar/restaurant. Our concierge (Diego Building 20) was fantastic and was always polite and willing to help us with our enquiries. Our only complaint was the all the A La Carte restaurants were fully booked before we ever checked in. (We did manage to get into 1 of the 7 or so available). It was a truly amazing hotel and its one of the few hotels we've gone to where we would actually want to go back to and have recommended this hotel to family, friends and work colleagues.

The best part of this resort was the staff. They were genuinely kind, upbeat, and excellent at their jobs. We loved interacting with the entertainment staff; Mariana, Alexis, and Brandon did a great job with all of the activities and made things fun! The food was very good at all of the restaurants, no complaints there. The pool staff were kind and attentive as well. Ricky and Armando were excellent concierges as well. Again, the staff was excellent here. I took off a star for the rooms because the air was stagnant at times and would have liked them to be cooler (same with the restaurants).. Originally we were in the honeymoon suite, which was nice, but the air was not working and the view was of the garden and a wall to another resort, so it was not what we were looking for in a room. The staff was accommodating and we were able to upgrade and move the following day. We ended up staying in the presidential suite with an ocean and pool view and the room and service was excellent for that room and location. The room was gorgeous and was extremely clean as well. This resort was smaller, but personal. It depends on what you are looking for in a resort. My review is based on our specific room and our interactions with the staff, which were all wonderful. We will miss the staff for sure!

We just spent a phenomenal week at Royal Hideaway Playacar, and it completely won us over. While the grounds are impeccably kept and the location is absolute paradise, it was the incredible staff that truly elevated our vacation. We actually witnessed some incredibly entitled guests treating the team poorly, yet the staff handled it with absolute grace, professionalism, and a genuine smile. That speaks volumes about the caliber of people working here. The atmosphere was fantastic, especially the intimate vibe of the restaurants. Instead of massive, noisy dining halls, the smaller venues made every meal feel special and exclusive. The food itself was consistently outstanding (though we unfortunately missed out on Spices due to an HVAC repair). The bartenders were wonderfully generous with their pours, and Mariana was an absolute standout—her kayak tour was incredibly relaxing and refreshing! I don’t typically do all-inclusive resorts, but after hearing other well-traveled patrons rave that Royal Hideaway is hands-down the best in the area, I can safely say we will absolutely be back.

Royal Hideaway Playacar is easily the best resort I’ve ever stayed at. And I’ve stayed at many. The grounds are beautiful, spotless, and perfectly maintained, but the service is what really makes this place stand out. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. Oscar and Rene were fantastic and always a pleasure to see. A HUGE thank you to Gabriella, our concierge, who was honestly incredible from start to finish. She took care of everything for us, dinner reservations, excursions, jet skis, special room requests, and anything else we needed. She made the whole trip effortless and always did it with a smile. Gabriella truly went above and beyond and made our stay even better. The food is on another level. No garbage buffets full of mystery meat. I’ve stayed at a lot of all-inclusives, and nothing else has come close to how fresh, high-quality, and consistently great every meal was. This might be a bit of over sharing, but it is the first time I’ve ever stayed at an all-inclusive resort with absolutely zero gastrointestinal issues. If you’re looking for an stress-free, adults-only getaway in the Riviera Maya, this is the place. Just stop scrolling and book it now. 10/10 experience and I’ll definitely be back.

Had an amazing birthday weekend! Lilly our pool butler is FANTASTIC. She always makes sure to take care of us with our poolside cabanas. She decorated our cabana this year with a birthday theme and it was sooooo cute! Dulce was our yacht concierge and she made our stay more special than ever. She even decorated our room which was beautiful. The service we received on our yacht trip was one of the best ever. Dulce didn’t miss one detail. I can’t thank these two enough for making my birthday weekend so memorable!

Our room was fairly average—more in line with a 3-star hotel, especially since we had a garden view. That said, the housekeeping services were consistently good. The property markets itself as all-inclusive, but in reality, there’s a strong class system across almost every aspect of the experience. Having stayed at multiple all-inclusive resorts, this isn’t how it’s typically done. It’s understandable to have a few exclusive perks for VIP guests, but here it feels like nearly everything is tiered. Be prepared for frequent sales pitches for long-term membership plans (up to 25 years) at extremely high prices, which can feel intrusive. Some staff members were genuinely kind and helpful, but overall, the service didn’t reflect the relaxed, inclusive vibe you’d expect from an all-inclusive resort. The nightly performances felt repetitive—essentially the same format each night with minor variations in costumes. Food was particularly disappointing for vegetarians, with very limited and underwhelming options. In one instance, the sunflower seeds in the asparagus soup at the restaurant “She” were rancid. The poolside setup also reflects the same class divide, with restricted seating areas that aren’t accessible to all guests—something I haven’t experienced at other resorts. It would be much better if they created a separate, smaller pool area specifically for VIP guests instead of segmenting shared spaces so heavily. Overall, the experience fell short of expectations for an all-inclusive resort.

The food is fantastic and I never needed a reservation to go there. Treated with respect being alone and its definitely my preferred spot. Pool and beach volleyball 🏐 😎 🤗 Theme nights are fun to dress up for. Security and bar staff are respectful and helpful. Chac-Chi Massage On the Beach, you’ll enjoy a truly amazing time. $45 for 1hr. $65 Jet Ski for 30 min and for para-gliding. This resort is a party resort. Its noisy no matter where you are lol

My boyfriend and I just finished our stay here for 5 nights as my birthday trip & we had a great time! Daniel with the concierge was amazing, always made sure our stay was running smoothly. I did a ton of research before booking & it was everything I wanted! Food was great, we never had a bad meal but definitely preferred Spumante & Rosewater. The buffet was always good too & we loved the midnight tacos! We stayed on the secrets side mostly we loved the pool, service was consistent & fast. We sat on the beach one morning and had a great view. Our room was perfect & housekeeping was great we had no complaints. The view was everything from sunrise to sunset, we booked an ocean view & would do the same again! The drinks were always strong but enjoyable, we loved stopping in the preferred lounge for some mimosas in the morning. The shows were very entertaining too, we saw the neon show & magic show. Overall we'd definitely recommend and we'd stay again! Remember to tip well the staff are so hard working!

I can’t recommend secrets enough. As soon as you get there you are greeted with cold towels and champagne. Instantly as soon as you step on property everyone is caring and willing to help. I can’t say enough great things about all of the staff here. We loved our server Jose at rosewater and the amazing pool guys always serving us with a friendly smile and constantly checking on us!! Luis was always making us laugh and entertained us everyday making us feel very at home and welcomed. At check in Elian and Reuben were amazing and so friendly making our process of check in and check out so seamless. We also were taken care of everyday at the pool by Mario and Daniel greeted everyday and always checked on throughout the day making sure we are being taken care of. Our preferred club bartender was so very kind and always remembered us and made sure to say hello every time we walked by. We can’t wait to visit a secrets again from how wonderfully we were taken care of here. Will definitely be back and can’t recommend this enough. The beaches were also maintained very very well during our stay.

Loved my vacation at Secrets. Had an ocean view and it was really pretty and quiet at night. Was very happy to be on the secrets side and glad not to be at breathless. It was calm and tranquil while breathless reminded me of early 2000 MTV spring break. Food was good for an all inclusive. We loved the pool. Shout out to our besties Mario and Daniel who were so kind, Julio and Gibran for being amazing servers and always making sure we had a drink. Luis in the entertainment crew was unreal! We loved him, looked forward to daily trivia and being summoned for ice cream, that was actually aerobics and making bracelets. He was the life of the party. Adrian and the hawk, Novak, were so fun to see every day. Adrian was so knowledgeable and excellent at answering all our questions and we wish so badly they had an Instagram page so we can follow along with their adventures in keeping birds away from the resort! Really fun nighttime activities. We did a paint and sip class, the drag show was FABULOUS, and at casino night, get the table with Manuel. The big downside for us was no swimming in the ocean.

I stayed at the resort a week before Thanksgiving. I have been to Cancun dozens of times and this is the best overall resort that I have stayed at. The food was very excellent and the layout of the the resort was very inviting. What made this resort so special was the staff. Luis and Andre, the pool activities personnel, were the best I have experienced in a long time. They made a point to speak to every guest around the pool and always asking if there is anything we could do to make my stay better. Cruz and Urbana, the pool waiters, were the best, always making sure I was taken care of. Daniel and Marco, the pool concierges, were always providing fresh towels and always assisting everyone at the pool with their umbrellas and chairs. My favorite waiter was Lucian at the buffet. He always set us at our favorite table and remembered our drinks order religiously. My only criticism would be the ocean. At this time of year it was murky and not pleasant to be in. I’ve stayed at all exclusive places over 30 times and this is the first time I’ve written a review. I can’t say enough good stuff about this Resort. The Breathless Side of the resort was nice but a little loud for my taste. Specialty restaurants were outstanding and I didn’t have to wait long to be seated. I strongly recommend staying here and hope to be back soon Bill from Iowa

We chose Secrets Riviera Cancun Resort to celebrate our anniversary, and unfortunately, it turned into one of the worst travel experiences we’ve had. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. Several staff members came across as standoffish, and there seemed to be more focus on upselling than providing genuine hospitality. When we got to our room, it was unacceptable. There was a strong sewage smell coming from the water—both the sink and shower—which made it uncomfortable to even wash our faces or brush our teeth. A manager came to check and acknowledged the odor but dismissed it as “normal,” which was shocking. We were told we would have to wait two days to be moved unless we paid extra to upgrade, which felt completely unreasonable given the condition of the room. When we were finally moved, the next room was not much better. There were visible blood stains on the sheets, the floors were dirty, the shower was unclean, and there were ants on the deck. We were told the room had been inspected, which made the condition even more concerning. We ended up living out of our suitcases for several days. To make matters worse, one of our personal belongings—my husband’s expensive electric toothbrush—went missing. When we reported it, we were asked to allow a search through our personal items, which felt invasive and inappropriate, so we declined. Hours later, we were told the toothbrush had been “found,” but when returned, it appeared to have been used, which was extremely disturbing. Additionally, some of my personal skincare items also went missing. Management response was very slow. It took several days for anyone to properly address our concerns, and we were not moved to a more suitable suite until day five—by then, our anniversary was already ruined. Given everything that occurred, including how the situation was handled, it left us with serious concerns about accountability and oversight. I will be contacting Hyatt directly to formally address this experience. Beyond that, the beach area was not well maintained, and the food did not meet expectations. While we did meet some nice people during our stay, the overall service and treatment we experienced left a very negative impression. We have stayed at other Secrets resorts before, but this was by far the worst experience. I truly regret choosing this location and would not recommend it.

Our family of 4 adults and two kids went the first week of March 2026 staying at the Grand. We had a connecting room. The ride from the airport was less than 10 minutes. We felt very safe despite what happened in PV. All the staff were friendly, and hard working. The resort is clean, the food was great. It was an amazing trip. We also went this past October and we'll be back!

Writing this while currently in resort. Good thing is golf carts, service at the pool side. Everything else is worst, avoid this place as much as possible. Rooms are not great, pretty old property. Yesterday there was water break in the room, they change the room and reprogrammed our keys for new room. After reaching to room our keys not working. They took 35 mins to send someone who again struggle to open initially. After multiple calls by him to office he was finally open it. The staff who was here didn’t know English so against communication was challenge . The staff who was picking phone hangs in two mins, transfer call to front desk, no one there to pick. Chatted in the app for no help. They said manager will call back but no one actually did. Note front desk is not near you have to go lobby by golf cart. Overall still unsure about not being locked out. Good cart staff good. House keeping is very good. Front desk is very unwelcoming. Most of staff not able to speak English so you had to use phone to translate. Food is below average (vegetarian options). Room credit is not useful anywhere. Give you an example spa only use 50 while without credit you get 40% discount which better. Overall credit is a trap. They can infect give you any amount as credit but you can’t use it. I am not going to stay in palace properties any where. Take your decision informed. Update: It got worse asking question at front desk led to scare. Went to public relation team already. While lock works great today evening thank god. Not much help.

I went for a music festival and this resort is massive! The property is well maintained (although mowing the lawn at 7am on a Saturday AM wasn't so great) due to the noise. The staff was super friendly and always very helpful. I'm gluten free and this was one of the first all inclusives I could really eat at! You check in and can give them any allergies and has on your account when you go to the restaurant and they actually take seriously. They would make me GF pancakes for breakfast and other items to take into account being GF. I just wish more items on the buffets would be labeled, but they do have a GF toaster and bread which was great! First vacation I've had in 10 years of being GF, and I didn't leave hungry! The app is really great and helpful, super easy to request any service for the room or reservations. Only two issues we had was more so for the festival where they had so many diamond seats blocked off by the pool with the stage, and no one was there all day, and a lot of us for the festival didn't have places to sit. Other issue was at Momo, I ordered the Waygu, which was totally worth it, but they gave me a hard time about not having a card connected to my reservation even though I provided once I checked in, so not sure why they didn't have! Pools were massive but could use some TLC, a lot of sharp and missing tiles. Would definitely consider coming back to a palace property again, this one was maybe a little too big for us almost in a non- music festival setting.

House keeping cleans during the day, if you come back and shower before dinner or whatever you have planned, they also come by and replace the towels you used mid day. Room service is always available. Plenty of restaurants to choose from and the service at each one is amazing. This is the only place ive been where the staff will go out of their way to assist you in whatever you need

We went here for my bestie's wedding and it was a wonderful resort. First, it is only 10min away from the airport. Second, the resort is super clean. Third, there is no shortage of variety of food and drink offerings. Fourth, the staff are very friendly. Fifth, the amenities are great - swimming pools, swim-up bars, basketball, pickleball, mini putting, bar lounges, hype lobby bars and lounges, etc. Sixth, super nice golf course. Seventh, convenient and user friendly resort app. Eighth, golf cart transportation to take people around the resort. We found a few issues during our trip: room service took too long to get delivered one night and we had to cancel our order after waiting 1hr for our food; limitation for the late-night food menu; and limited use for the resort credits. Overall, we loved the resort. We would probably go back!

We had a recent 5 night stay at Excellence Riveria Cancun. We enjoyed our stay and thought everyone there was fantastic, especially our morning tennis clinics with Alex. We thought the food was great but was slightly disappointed that some of the restaurants took over two hours from start to finish. While this is a very minor complaint, it would be nice to limit dining to an hour or hour and a half. Drinks and lounging were fantastic, wait staff in the excellence club were especially great. Staff would always be checking in to see if you needed anything, including your sunglasses being cleaned. The beach was clean, staff would be manicuring it in the mornings before heavy use. Rooms are starting to show their age but do not detract from the stay, but it would be nice to see an update. Transportation between the resort and the airport was a breeze, so that was a relief to be able to get from the airport tarmac to the resort in a little over an hour. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

We had an amazing time at Excellence Riviera Cancun. The most impressive thing was how incredibly nice the staff is. Every one goes out of their way to make sure your stay is as good as possible! The food was really good. We only wish Agave restaurant was open more nights. We were not able to eat there at all because it's closed 3 nights a week. But we did go to the Mexican fiesta and the food and entertainment were amazing! The only thing we would add is more nightly entertainment, such as dancing, and later hours.

My wife and I went for our 10 year anniversary and it was everything we could have hoped for. There are so many pools that it never felt crowded and all the pools were so warm and relaxing. Everything we had to eat at the resort was also incredible, if we were to have a similar dinner back home it would have easily been a $150+ USD dinner. Every single person working at the resort from the waiters/waitresses to the bartenders to the landscapers and so on all seemed to be very happy to be there and made it a very enjoyable experience! 5/5 we will be back and have already started looking into the other resorts in the Excellence collection as well. Thank you for a great anniversary and a very relaxing vacation!

An incredible return stay at Excellence Riviera Cancun! The resort grounds are stunning and meticulously maintained by a hard-working gardening crew (we loved seeing all the wildlife, especially Mabel the cat!). Activities: The entertainment team kept us having fun all week. Kaleb was a standout guide on our bike ride—so helpful and knowledgeable. Beach: Pristine! The new sea barriers and tractor clean-up meant there was almost zero sargassum. Swimming was wonderful, and beach waiters Santos and Benjamin treated us like royalty, remembering our orders by day two. Food: The Kitchen Table was our favorite for breakfast and lunch buffets (shoutout to Yulisa, Carlos, Eduardo, and Christian!). Flavor Market was excellent as always thanks to William. At Spice, the standard menu was fabulous and Adrian gave us great service, though the Hibachi experience was a bit less engaging than in years past. Service: A massive thank you to Fernando (F&B Manager). He handled a minor restaurant issue swiftly and beautifully, making us feel like absolute VIPs for the rest of our trip. We had a fantastic time and are already planning our next trip back!

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon a few days ago in the Imperial Excellence Club suite 8059. It was worth every penny! The staff here are so personable and attentive. We really loved our housekeeper Paula, she was the sweetest, and would tidy up our rooms every evening. Edgar, was our bartender since the very first night, he made great drinks and we always had fun conversation with him. Rosa Maria helped us with excursions, I was so impressed by how knowledgeable she was about so many different excursions that they offer, very detailed and I loved that she would meet us before the excursion pick up time to ensure everything went smoothly. Those were the ones who stood out to us the most but every staff member really went out of their way to ensure you were enjoying your stay! This resort definitely has more of a relaxed/romantic atmosphere they host trivia nights, live music, karaoke nights, etc. we really enjoyed the Dubai theme night with dj and belly dancers. While we were there they played the Super Bowl on a big screen and had a big “carne asada”, that was very cool! We really enjoyed our stay here, thank you Excellence!
