Miserable Stay, Absolutely Not a 4-Star Hotel
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We stayed at R2 Buganvilla Hotel during a heatwave where temperatures were reaching over 40°, and the air conditioning in our room didn’t work for the entire trip. When I complained, the hotel sent a Spanish-speaking technician who couldn’t understand a word we said and simply declared it was “fine” (it wasn’t). We were then told it was fixed—this was a lie—only to later hear it was actually broken and they were “waiting for a technician from Gran Canaria.” I explained that we urgently needed a solution, like a fan, because a family member with a heart condition cannot regulate their temperature. The hotel still did nothing. This led to that family member suffering heatstroke and requiring multiple trips to the pharmacy for medication.
The so-called “snack bar” is a joke: a small fridge with sad ham and cheese sandwiches you can toast, plus a tray of mushy cakes. The main buffet food is bland, repetitive, and 100% geared toward German guests. Every poster is in German, the entertainment is in German, and the vast majority of residents are German—many of whom were shockingly rude. One incident in the restaurant left us humiliated when a woman ran over shouting in German, claiming we had “her” table, despite there being no sign or items on it. We left in embarrassment.
The entertainment room is stuffy, has no aircon, and never enough seats. Reception staff are abrupt, unfriendly, and seem to have no patience for English-speaking guests. The pool? Tiny, overcrowded, and full of kids hurling balls around. There’s only one pool, nowhere near enough sunbeds, and guests reserve them at the crack of dawn.
No cleaning service on Sundays meant we were left without toilet roll and with dirty towels. We also had an ant infestation all over the desk and dresser. Outside the hotel, there’s very little to do—almost every excursion is in the north or middle of the island, hours away.
To top it off, when we asked about paying for a late checkout (normal checkout is 12 noon, but our transfer wasn’t until 5:25pm), explaining it was so my family member with a medical condition could have a toilet and stay comfortable, the man at reception actually laughed in our faces and told us the hotel was fully booked.
Checkout was the final straw. The lady at reception gave us a dirty look, didn’t ask how our stay was, and just snatched the room cards from our hands before walking away. No thank you, no goodbye—just complete indifference. We also asked someone else if they could change two 50-cent coins for a euro so we could use the luggage weight machine, and a different member of staff just shrugged and said “I don’t know.” She didn’t know how it worked either, which made no sense—how do you work at reception and not know how a basic hotel amenity functions?
The only positive: shops, restaurants, a beach, and a pharmacy nearby (though the pharmacy is shut often). The room itself is modern, but that’s meaningless when you have no aircon in extreme heat, unhelpful staff, repetitive food, rude guests, ants, and poor cleanliness.
How this is rated as a 4-star hotel is beyond me. For us, it was a miserable, uncomfortable, and stressful experience. I’ve had better nights’ sleep on the Megabus to Inverness. By day three we were longing for the comfort and glamour of a Travelodge by the A1.
Avoid at all costs. 👎🏼

We spent a lovely week here at the turn of January and February. Our choice of hotel was random and we were positively surprised. The food offer was sometimes more modest, but there was always plenty to choose from. Among the amazing gastronomic experiences I would mention the paella served outside and the seafood-filled dinner at the end of our stay. The hotel is clean and the staff very friendly. We would love to return again.

Short review: a solid 8/10, not perfect but very very good.
Long review:
We stayed for 7 nights, staff at reception is nice but feels a bit « cold » but I don’t blame them as most tourists here are germans and they are not…the most friendly either let’s say.
The room, we got a better one from reception staff without asking, room with ocean view (326) but some big air machine outside the room, you could hear it during the night (strong but not a problem to sleep).
Room was big, nice shower, big bed, balcony, tv, water.
The cleaning staff is the main reason why i put 4 stars and not 5, they are all very friendly and nice but from 7am they are shouting and talking to each other super loud, if you are on holiday, you might want to sleep a bit later then that but just my way of seeing things, overall the cleaning job was always perfect.
The staff in the resort is friendly, not too pushy and speak a bit of english but mostly german as 98% of tourists there are germans.
Food is one of the big positive, i don’t understand the complaining reviews about this, choice is nice, some evenings with special events, paella, etc.
SPA is nice, a bit disappointed by the massage…it was nice but 55€ approximately for full body massage and I got a very nice back and neck massage with legs but no arms/wrists/hands/ankles etc so for me this does not qualify as full massage.
I still believe this place is a solid 8/10, you can walk to the beach in 10min, the bar next to the pool is nice to enjoy your stay as well.
In March, the wind was quite present so we could not use the pool much outside (we thought it said warmed pool but it was not).
The activity team is super nice, they do the best they can with as small as equipment they get.
You have some free drinks fountains and beer etc at the bar pool, snacks during the day were extremely « poor », nothing terrible but some dry toasts that you can transform into panini with machine next to it.
Thanks to all the staff, i know i might sound a bit harsh for some points but we enjoyed our stay and if we had to change one thing, it would be to come maybe more around June as March felt a bit « early » for the very nice weather.

We opted for all inclusive dbl sea view room. Upon arrival we found the Staff at reception unbelievably helpful, Angelo was especially helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. The Hotel is ideally located on the Morro jable strip, the shops are just below the hotel. The beach is very close and wide of very very high quality, beautiful white sands no pebbles. The food at the Hotel was amazing with lots of choice and the menu was changed regularly with something different every day for the fussy eaters. The pool and bar area was very nice with occasional ambient music. The hotel was spotless there was no expense spared when it came to hotel cleanliness. The hotel is mainly of German nationality but that did not bother us being British and most spoke English including the staff. Would definitely stop again. We hired a car and were at the hotel in just over an hour, shuttle buses run from the airport but obviously will take longer to get to the Hotel. Car hire was very cheap considering.

We spent two weeks here at the beginning of November in a standard double room.
The hotel is OK. Nothing really stands out in negative or positive way.
Rooms are quite spacious and clean, location is good, food is fine sometimes better sometimes worse, depends on a day. Stuff is rather nice and helpful and hotel has really nice terrace with sunbeds and beautiful sea view which in my opinion is one of the biggest highlights. From the positives there is also a gym which is decently equipped, at least for a vacation hotel.
From the downsides my main complaint would be restaurant size, it`s just too small for this hotel and gets unpleasantly crowded during popular dining hours.
If you plan on using shower gel better bring your own as room service is constantly forgetting to resupply it. Bathrooms have slided glass door, maybe it looks nice on photos but is so impractical in real life.
Generally I can recommend it but don`t just expect any bells and whistles.
