Review: Catalonia Oro Negro, Tenerife
We had a really good stay at the Catalonia Oro Negro hotel in Tenerife and overall would definitely recommend it.
The service from the reception staff throughout the stay was excellent. Check-in was quick and easy, and the team were always helpful whenever we needed anything. One thing to note is that pool towels require a €10 cash deposit each, which you exchange for a token. The safe in the room also costs €3 per day — you pay at reception and they provide a code to activate it.
The hallway leading to our room felt a bit tired and quite dark, and could definitely benefit from brighter lighting as it doesn’t give the best first impression. However, once we got into the room it was a completely different story. Our room was clearly recently renovated and finished to a really good standard. The bathroom was gorgeous, with a huge walk-in shower and excellent lighting.
We stayed on the 8th floor and had a wraparound balcony, which was a highlight. It gave us lovely sea views as well as views of the volcano, which made it a great spot to sit and relax. The bed wasn’t the most comfortable we’ve slept in, but it was perfectly fine and we still slept well. Housekeeping came daily and towels were changed every day, which was great.
The hotel also has a very nice pool area, and there’s a rooftop pool available for an extra charge (I believe), although we didn’t feel the need to use it during our stay.
Location-wise, the hotel is well placed. It’s about a 10–15 minute walk to the Golden Mile and there are plenty of restaurants and places to eat nearby. We booked half board but ended up eating out every day, so unfortunately can’t comment on the food at the hotel.
The only real downside for us was the noise from the road. Even with the balcony doors fully closed, it still sounded like they were open. It’s quite a busy road so there is consistent traffic noise. Aside from that, though, we had a very good stay.
Overall, a great hotel with friendly staff, modern renovated rooms and a good location. Despite the road noise, we would happily stay here again.

Excellent hotel with great facilities.
Upon arrival, got upgraded to one of the best rooms for free. This room was very modern and stylish, with a good view of the pool area and the seafront.
Not too far for all the nightlife if your into that. Could not hear nightlife from the room which was good.
Great selection at breakfast and dinner with it being restocked often. Nuno and Anna were great at looking after us during breakfast and dinner.
Overall, 100% would stay here again

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Catalonia Oro Negro—it exceeded my expectations for a 3-star hotel.
The room was very well maintained, with bed sheets and towels changed daily. Everything felt clean and comfortable throughout my stay. The reception staff were incredibly helpful and polite; every time I needed assistance, they responded quickly and efficiently. At one point, I accidentally locked my suitcase, and they arranged a technician who arrived with tools in less than five minutes—impressive service!
The pool area was spotless, and I could see from my balcony that it was cleaned every morning. The food offered a good variety, and the restaurant and bar staff were not only polite but also friendly and fun, making both me and my young son feel very welcome.
I also appreciated the honesty of the staff—despite accidentally leaving several items in the room, nothing went missing, which really reassured me after reading some negative reviews beforehand.
There was entertainment every evening, including singers and magicians, which added a nice touch to our stay. The location is also very convenient: just a 5-minute walk to the beach, about 10 minutes to the main bus station, and with shops nearby.
Overall, this hotel offered more than I expected, and I would happily recommend it to others.

My advice is to find another hotel if you have specific health or accessibility needs. We booked two standard rooms with bathtubs for medical reasons, but upon arrival, we were given two tiny rooms (half the size) with only showers.
The hotel staff showed no flexibility and simply said they were 'full.' If you are looking for a hotel that honors its reservations and cares about its guests' health requirements, look elsewhere. There are many other hotels in the area that are more reliable and professional.

We had a wonderful stay here at Tenerife. Great location that is really close to the stadium, beaches and many many stores. The hotel offers beautiful view and really great food. But the greatest aspect of the hotel is the staff. People that are working here are really nice and helpful in every kind of way. I will especially remember one of the waitresses Ms. Belen. She welcomed us everyday with a big smile and made our stay really pleasent.
