I've spent a wonderful week at the AX The Victoria Hotel. It's not the most modern of hotels I've stayed at, with the hallways and rooms looking rather dark, due to the sombre (brown) decor. Notwithstanding the dour décor, the hotel makes up with it's great amenities, friendly staff and choice of cuisine. With regards to the cuisine, there's a great choice at breakfast and there are a number of restaurants on site and shared with the sister Palace hotel, that offer a wide variety of worldy tastes, including cultural food nights, e.g. Malta night, for a set fee. We did the Maltese night and found the food varied, tasty and abundant. My only criticism of the hotel is there's no dress code enforced at the evening meal events. In my case at the Maltese food night, which took place in the adjoining Palace Hotel, there was a group of individuals on the table beside us wearing their football tops and shorts. For dinner, in a lovely setting, to see individuals walking around in football tops was very disappointing. I believe for these types of events smart/casual should be enforced by the management. That's my only criticism of a wonderful hotel.
PS. The view from the rooftop pool across to Valletta is amazing and something I'll always treasure.
Last minute update: I was very disappointed that the breakfast I had ordered for my family and I, for our early morning journey to the airport, was not ready for my departure, even though I'd given reception 2 days notice.

Nails it. Great breakfast buffet, gym, and pool area. Staff is SO NICE and helpful. Really made us feel special on our honeymoon.
Less than 10 mins walking to the beach and whatever else you might like. Frequent nearby ferry to valletta

Amazing stay at AX Victoria Hotel!
The hotel is beautiful, very clean, and perfectly located. The staff were incredibly professional, friendly, and always ready to help with anything.
What made my stay truly special was the thoughtful surprise for my birthday — the team wished me a happy birthday and even left a birthday voucher for me. That small gesture meant a lot and made me feel genuinely welcomed and appreciated as a guest.
The service throughout my stay was excellent, the atmosphere was relaxing, and everything was handled with great attention to detail. Thank you to everyone at AX The Victoria Hotel for making my birthday trip even more memorable. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Malta!

Extremely Disappointing Stay
I cannot recommend this hotel while renovations are taking place.
During my entire stay, there was constant construction and heavy drilling directly above my room starting around 9:00 AM every morning, including Saturday. The noise was so loud that it was impossible to relax, work, or even remain in the room. I often had to leave the hotel because the room was simply unusable during the day.
What is most disappointing is that nowhere on the hotel's website or booking page was it disclosed that major renovation work was taking place directly above occupied guest rooms. Had I known this before booking, I would have chosen another hotel.
The hotel later claimed they offered me another room, but this only happened on the last day of my stay, after I had already spent several days dealing with the disruption and had completely unpacked. I was contacted while I was away from the hotel, so I couldn't discuss the situation in person. Offering a room change at the end of the stay did not make up for the days of excessive noise.
Instead of acknowledging how severely the construction impacted my stay, the hotel minimized the issue. Guests should be informed in advance if they are booking a room directly beneath active construction. Transparency is the least travelers deserve.
I would strongly advise anyone considering this hotel to confirm whether renovations are still ongoing before booking.

Have just had a lovely two week holiday in Malta staying in the AX Victoria Hotel. The hotel was good on most aspects but the thing that made it stand out were the staff. All friendly, attentive and eager to help. Special mentions to Ashini and Neeta on the roof top bar and Cupreet and her team who are all fantastic at dinner and deserve a special, special mention. Again, thank you all for all your hospitality. My wife, Suzanne, has had an absolute ball.
