Sliema
Vibrant yet relaxing, fun whilst elegant, Sliema is a superb choice for visitors wanting a holiday to Malta that's filled with things to see and do. On the north-eastern part of the island, it has a rocky shore but is packed with loungers and parasols to ensure visitors make the most of the glorious summer weather. Sitting between the resorts of Valletta (the capital) and Paceville, this is a prime spot to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere here, the busy nightlife of Paceville and the architectural wonders of Malta's capital.
Head to the beach and you have thrilling water sports or leisurely swimming for all of the family along with a selection of beach-side cafes and bars keeping you refuelled throughout the day. Back in the town and the classy restaurants and bars provide a superb evening of chic entertainment and excellent cuisine, though for a livelier party atmosphere, Paceville has its more than ample choice of nightclubs. Modern shopping, boat trips across the harbour, sunbathing and water sports, plenty of options for dining, Sliema is ideal for families and couples.

This was my 9th stay at the Kennedy Nova hotel in Gzira Malta. A very pleasant stay with friendly and helpful staff always on hand when needed. The rooms are comfortable and clean with a daily cleaning service. There is a rooftop bar with a small pool and sun beds. The food is good with a good menu. The front rooms have an excellent view of Manoel Island, Valletta.and the many boats in the harbour.
Overall a very pleasant hotel and one I shall be visiting again in the future.

I was in the room 504 with my two friends but we also had 3 other rooms booked for the rest of our friends. In our room the ac wasnt working propperly and was also dripping wich we reported 3 times and only after the third did they send someone to fix it but they didn’t fix it it was still dripping. The shower was wery short and dint have a showerhead onlu the one attached to the wall dripping down, me and my friends were taller that the shower so we had to shower bending down. The breakfast was very bad like old good they keep giving when someone doesn’t eat it so u would still have to buy your own breakfast. The maids were very disturbing they always knock on your door the walls are paper thin so you hear everything all the time the pool the offer is very bas bad music is going its not clean and its very sad looking. One of my friends bes was hard as a rock her back hurt for all of our vication and the ac in her room was barely working she was sweating all the time. Majority of guest are kids but like a lot of kids school trip kids wich are very loud and disturbing. Overall it was an awful experience i highly recommend you necer go here. Just to mention this is all you get for over 1000€ per room.

The hotel is on the Sliema seafront. Parking in the area is very limited so arrive by bus or taxi. Check in was easy. The receptionist on 2nd May in the evening was polite and friendly. The room was quite small, no balcony. The air conditioner wasn't working. It was set to 16c and high speed but it wasn't blowing cold air. There wasn't coffee, tea or bottle water. This is something I'd expect im a 4 star hotel. The bathroom was clean, the shower head fixed and quite low down. I'm not particularly tall but had to stoop to get under it. There was a lot of noise at night from other guests. The hotel staff did deal with it Breakfast wasn't great. Almost everything that's supposed to be hot wasn't. The coffee was ok. The hotel is ok but I can't really recommend it. There are better options in Malta for the same money

The food in almost the same every day, the are minimum 2-3 types of potatos fried, boiled even for dinner, even for breakfast. The service isn’t really good the people at the reception are always around our room and knocking at our door cause we’re a group of kids and they are kidding with us every night. The location is good. The rooms are miserable, the maid doesn’t change our sheets but they are only changing the place of the sheet on the other bed. The air conditioning doesn’t work really good, if it works in the day it works on a cold mode, and the night- warm. Don’t take a speaker because they are going to tax you about “ the shout we make “. The rooms doesn’t smell good and the lamp switches are really strange. The balcons are miserable too and they are really small and doesn’t have any chairs. The bathrooms - the water isn’t clean, the shower is hard to work and the bathtub isn’t good too. The maids doesn’t take the rubbish and they only make our beds every day. For the month of march I don’t really think that the thin sheets are enough to not sleep with a jacket. In my opinion for one night it’s good but for more - not. I don’t recommend this hotel.

The location is the only thing about this hotel that is worth your money. Filthy room, disgusting food (don’t eat there!!) and careless service. Dirty bedding, dirty bathroom, tiny window, moldy AC, and it’s very loud especially at night, so expect 0 sleep.
As for the service, calling the reception doesn’t work from the room, when we tried to explain the situation the receptionist replies with attitude (Frank was really nice though trying to help us change the bedding 3 times after every new piece they brought was still dirty or wet).
At check out, no one even asked about how we experienced our stay.

Great location for so many things. The beach club, snorkelling in the sea, bus routes, restaurants and shops, evening walks and more.
The hotel is as you’d expect - tidy, clean, cool and full of the nicest staff you could wish for. The food was great every single day - loads of choice and all great tastes.
We had an absolutely fantastic holiday at the Preluna.

We stayed at this hotel from Sunday to Wednesday during our holiday and had a wonderful experience.
Although our room did not have a balcony or a sea view, it was clean, beautiful, spacious, and well-equipped with air conditioning and a TV. Everything was comfortable and well maintained.
The hotel pool is located right by the seafront and offers a beautiful view of the sea, making it a great place to relax.
The staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. We would also like to thank the hotel for allowing us to wait for our bus in the lobby after check-out. We really appreciated this kindness.
Thank you for a lovely stay. We would happily stay here again! 😊

The city view balcony room is large and clean. Mostly looking modern with furniture. The bed and pillow were comfortable. Bathroom had a bathtub but I didn’t use it. The hotel is modern in general.
The room has British power sockets but luckily one European outlet as well. USB outlets didn’t work (tested all 3) and it seems to be issue for other travellers too. The wireless charging station either works when light is on or is extra sensitive. Not sure what was the issue but my battery died over night which isn’t normal if wifi/mobile network is off. This is the reason for giving 4/5 for the room, small thing but major effect. Most likely they would give you adapter from the reception if asked.
Staff were friendly and professional.
Spa is quite small but works for relaxing, just don’t expect luxurious space.
Location is excellent for eating, shopping and public transportation. Direct bus connection to the airport and Valletta, Ferry to Valletta close by (check status from their FB).
I stayed solo for 2 nights in February. Over all good for the price I paid and would visit again.

Excellent stay in Preluna hotel. The stuffs are very friendly and helpful! Great cleaning service and amazing sea view from our room. Very close to sea and beaches.
I previously had a problem with my booking. Shoutout to their reservation team with prompt assistance and kindness! 🥰

Thank you all so much for our anniversary gift, it was much appreciated. The sea view was amazing, definitely worth the extra cost. Didn't hear much building work going on even though we were prewarned by easyjet. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Good selection of bars, cafes and restaurants close by. Bus stop is just across the road, the maltese public transport system is great value for money. As always Malta didn't disappoint!

Absolutely beautiful hotel, rooftop pool/bar/restaurant was lovely. We got an upgrade to our room which was a super surprise. All the staff were very friendly. The breakfast was super and had lots of both "normal" selection of hot and cold foods, but also some more unique things to try too. Location was perfect too, very easy for Ubers, and also adventuring around the place. Quiet street even though next to hospital, it was never even one bit loud. Incredibly comfortable bed too, will be emailing to ask for mattress details :'D Would definitely stay again!

Fantastic hotel. Staff all very friendly and helpful, especially Rose on reception. Loved the infinity pool with views of the sea and Valletta. Breakfast buffet is good and has a variety of options. Had two dinners at the rooftop bar which were superb. Definitely would return!

I've spent a wonderful week at the AX The Victoria Hotel. It's not the most modern of hotels I've stayed at, with the hallways and rooms looking rather dark, due to the sombre (brown) decor. Notwithstanding the dour décor, the hotel makes up with it's great amenities, friendly staff and choice of cuisine. With regards to the cuisine, there's a great choice at breakfast and there are a number of restaurants on site and shared with the sister Palace hotel, that offer a wide variety of worldy tastes, including cultural food nights, e.g. Malta night, for a set fee. We did the Maltese night and found the food varied, tasty and abundant. My only criticism of the hotel is there's no dress code enforced at the evening meal events. In my case at the Maltese food night, which took place in the adjoining Palace Hotel, there was a group of individuals on the table beside us wearing their football tops and shorts. For dinner, in a lovely setting, to see individuals walking around in football tops was very disappointing. I believe for these types of events smart/casual should be enforced by the management. That's my only criticism of a wonderful hotel.
PS. The view from the rooftop pool across to Valletta is amazing and something I'll always treasure.
Last minute update: I was very disappointed that the breakfast I had ordered for my family and I, for our early morning journey to the airport, was not ready for my departure, even though I'd given reception 2 days notice.

An Absolute Gem in Sliema! 🌟
My stay at AX The Victoria Hotel in Sliema was nothing short of fantastic. From the moment I walked through the doors, the hotel exceeded all my expectations.
🏨 Elegance and Spotless Cleanliness
The hotel radiates a timeless elegance and charm, blending classic style with modern comfort. What truly stood out, however, was the immaculate cleanliness throughout the entire property. My room, the hallways, and all public areas were kept to the highest hygienic standards, making my stay exceptionally comfortable and relaxing.
👥 Exceptional Staff and Outstanding Reception
While the hotel itself is gorgeous, the real heart of AX The Victoria Hotel is its incredible staff. A special shout-out goes to the reception team (Viktoria&Rose), who went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Their helpfulness, genuine kindness, and professional attitude made me feel completely at home from day one. Whether I needed local recommendations, assistance with bookings, or just a friendly greeting after a long day of exploring, they were always ready with a smile.
⭐ Final Verdict
If you are looking for a stylish, spotless, and centrally located base in Malta with world-class hospitality, look no further than AX The Victoria Hotel. I cannot recommend it enough and will gladly return on my next trip to Malta!

Enjoyed four nights with my husband and family members at this lovely hotel. Rooms were a good size, air conditioning and great shower. However both my family members were aware of a distinct smell in their rooms after the second night which may possibly have been the air conditioning units! There was so much choice at breakfast and myself being coeliac was taken great care of and each morning was given my own bacon, bread/toast, sweet waffle and small muffin without having to ask, thank you. Wamish (sorry if spelling is wrong) who was the barman in The Penny Black was really good and couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome and always service with a smile. On reception Victoria went above and beyond to help get a birthday cake we ordered through a local bakery delivered on time, thank you. Everyone in the hotel was very helpful. The hotel is not far from harbour or seafront, views from rooftop pool 360° . I would definitely come back again.

One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The room was beautiful with an amazing view of Valletta. The food was amazing and even catered for my partners restrictive diet. All the staff are polite and attentive and the gym is extremely well equipped. The manta pool has a great vibe and overall we found our stay to be faultless. Highly recommend for anyone staying in Sliema.

Very disappointing experience. This hotel is definitely not a 5-star hotel – I would rate it as a 3-star at best. The rooms are very dark and much smaller than they appear in the photos. The pictures on the website do not accurately reflect the actual condition of the hotel or the rooms.
The pool is shared with the restaurant below the hotel, and there are restrictions on when hotel guests can use it, which was never made clear beforehand. Most of the staff were unfriendly and not helpful.
Overall, the standard is far below what you would expect from a luxury hotel. If this were a 2- or 3-star hotel at half the price, it might be acceptable. But for the price charged and the advertised 5-star standard, it was a huge disappointment.
I also don’t understand the very high ratings on Booking.com, because my experience was completely different. Based on my stay, I cannot understand how this hotel has received such positive reviews.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a genuine 5-star experience.

Really enjoyed stay in Barcelo hotel in Sliema. Room was spacious and view of Valletta wonderful to enjoy. Breakfast buffet - one of the best on the island, with lots of fresh and healthy options too. Location wise also very good in central part of Malta, just a walk away from Sliema Ferries and multitude of restaurants / cafes in the area. Staff was always attentive and willing to help. We will be happy to come back one day.
CARL FITCH
Great hotel. Friendly staff. Spotless. Breakfast the best. Gym amazing. Shame that hotel guests treated like second class citizens, especially when they have a private party and guests crammed into small area with poor and broken facilities. Probably better that, in those circumstances, that they close it to hotel guests. Notwithstanding that, would definitely return to hotel.
Yana Le Tissier
Lovely hotel, very friendly and welcoming staff, especially Lucia one of the waiting staff. She is always helpful, cheerful and professional. The breakfast is great with lots of variety including hot and cold. The rooms are spotlessly clean with good quality bedding. We stayed for 10 days, half board. On day 9, we had a problem with the bath water in our room. We were moved to another room (upgraded) with super efficiency. We would have given 5 star rating however, the hot food selection in the evening was just warm. I did mention this to the front of house on several occasions and was informed on one occasion to plate my food and Chef will re warm it...not 5 star experience on this point. Overall, Sliema is a good place to use as a base in order to travel to other parts of Malta.

Outstanding hotel in a brilliant location - 10 mins to restaurants and promenade. Arrived to a handwritten welcome note from the Guest Relations team and a lovely welcome amenity of fresh fruit and Maltese pastizzi — small touches that made a big impression.
We booked a Junior Suite for three adults — plenty of space, and very comfortable.
The buffet breakfast was exceptional — fresh fruit, continental and full cooked hot breakfast, plus a live omelette station. As Muslim travellers we were delighted to find all chicken was halal, a thoughtful touch that made a real difference.
The reception staff were exceptionally attentive throughout — always helpful and a genuine credit to the hotel.
We made great use of the sauna and indoor pool every evening — both open until 9pm, ideal after a full day of sightseeing. The outdoor infinity pool closes at 6pm so we didn't manage to use it — something to factor in if you're out and about during the day.
Practical bonus: there's a Lidl just around the corner — great for stocking up before day trips, especially if you have a hire car. There's also a beautiful church opposite the hotel; the bell rings every 15 minutes but you quickly get used to it!
Perfectly positioned for exploring Malta — buses, the seafront promenade and the ferry all on the doorstep. Would absolutely stay again. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it.
The room was cleaned thoroughly every day, and everything was always spotless and comfortable. The location is excellent, with the promenade, bus stops, and shops all within easy walking distance.
The food was outstanding — delicious, varied, and of high quality. We were also impressed by the friendly and helpful staff, who were always welcoming and ready to assist.
We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable stay, great service, and a perfect location.

Really great experience at this hotel. Wonderful polite and generous service. Comfortable big bed and good pillows on request. Varied selection at breakfast. Only issue for us was the TV - not enough good options and couldn't connect to the Internet on the TV. 3 pools - 1 heated indoor, 1 heated outdoor and 1 cool water in an adult only area with no music which was our favourite! Be aware that if you're on the 8th floor you can hear the chairs being moved above you.

This year’s trip to The Palace exceeded our expectations once again. It’s always an outstanding holiday, but this time the service really was taken to another level.
A huge thank you to Doriann, who helped us upgrade to the Music Suite during our stay. What an incredible room! It was huge and beautifully spacious, with wonderful amenities including a private balcony jacuzzi and a separate living room area. We were also welcomed with a bottle of champagne and a delightful fruit platter – such a lovely touch.
The rest of the management team didn’t disappoint either. Maris, Mark and James were always on hand whenever we needed anything, and it was a pleasure to meet Amir for the first time. He continuously went out of his way to help and couldn’t have been more attentive.
With the crazy temperatures this year, we spent the majority of our holiday relaxing around the rooftop pool – and we couldn’t have been better looked after by the pool bar team. In particular, a huge thank you to Kris, Ivana and Kumar, who were fantastic throughout our stay. Their service, friendliness and attention really made our days by the pool even more enjoyable.
We also dined at many of the hotel’s onsite restaurants, including both TemptAsian and Talk of the Town, and once again, everything was fantastic.
Another brilliant stay at The Palace, made even more special by the wonderful team. We’re already looking forward to returning next year!

Currently staying in this hotel with a 9 year old boy and myself. The hotel is amazing. Very clean and tidy and very classy. The pool is amazing. I last came here about 10 years ago and it's as good now as it was then. On a lovely hot day it never felt over crowded or busy at all. There is plenty of seating pool side and more than enough to cater for the amount of guests that can stay in the hotel.
The rooms are well equipped. We have a superior with balcony. The bathroom is perfect to relax at the end of the day and furniture is comfortable spacious.
The staff are friendly and can't do enough to make the stay enjoyable. From ordering drinks and food to helping with general enquiries they are superb.
Location is great and only a short walk gets you to the coastline or any amount of bars and restaurants that you could want. The food in the hotel is very nice and generous.
I would happily recorded this hotel to anyone wanting a good base for exploring Malta to people looking for a more luxurious experience. It really does have it all.
Activities
Primarily a tourist resort, Sliema offers all of the things associated with a holiday town such as good shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and beach-side fun in the sun. Lazy sunbathing in one of the lidos or adrenaline-fuelled water sports off the coast attract droves of visitors but there is also plenty of opportunity to visit St Julians and Valletta , Bugibba and Paceville. Ferry or bus, there are regular pick-ups and drop-offs.
Evening cruises across the harbour provide a wonderful view of the coastline and nearby Valletta with its impressive architecture considered by UNESCO to be one of the most concentrated areas of historic interest. The lights of the town reflecting across the calm waters provide many a romantic evening for couples. The 5km stretch of coastline that runs to St Julian's and onwards is filled with plenty of attractions for tourists making the promenade a great place for locals and visitors alike, to socialise.
