If you are looking for a resort with a long white sandy beach, then this review may not be for you. However, if you want to know what makes Occidental Costa Cancún a great place to stay, keep reading.
One of the things I appreciated most was their flexibility with arrival and departure times. We arrived early in the morning, well before the official check-in time. Instead of waiting around, the resort gave us full access to all the facilities. Since we had booked the all-inclusive package, we were able to enjoy the restaurants, pools, beach area, drinks, and all other amenities while waiting for our room to be ready at 3:00 PM.
The same excellent service applied on our departure day. Although we had to check out of our room at 11:00 AM, we were allowed to continue using the all-inclusive facilities until 2:00 PM. After that, we could still stay and enjoy the resort’s common areas until our late flight, which made our last day much more comfortable and stress-free.
The resort itself was very clean and well maintained. The food was delicious, with plenty of variety and quality that often felt more like dining in a good restaurant than a typical all-inclusive buffet. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always willing to assist.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay. The excellent service, flexibility, cleanliness, food quality, and welcoming atmosphere made this a great vacation experience. I would definitely recommend Occidental Costa Cancún to anyone looking for a comfortable and relaxing stay in Cancún.

We recently stayed at Occidental Costa Cancún with our family. Overall we had a good experience mainly thanks to some outstanding staff members.
Pros
The Kids Club was fantastic, and Janelly was amazing with my daughter and truly went above and beyond.
As someone with celiac disease, traveling can be stressful, but several staff members made sure I always had safe gluten-free meals. A big thank you to Sergio at México Lindo, Sergio and Mario Herrera at Albatros, the Albatros chefs, and Daniel Camal at Claraboya and Trattoria. They were incredibly attentive and even brought me gluten-free desserts.
The snack bar is open 24 hours and great for families (although limited options for celiac). The beach is calm and safe for small kids, which is great for families.
Cons
Reception seemed understaffed, and check-in took a long time without even being offered water.
The room was okay, but pillows were uncomfortable and towel replacement was inconsistent (twice we only had one towel for six people). During our stay there was also a power outage and water outage.
The resort is very noisy, especially around the only pool where loud music plays all day. When the shows end around 10 pm, a very loud garbage truck arrives, making it hard to sleep.
There are not enough lounge chairs at the pool or beach, and the beach area is small.
Guests are strongly pushed at the concierge desk to attend a vacation membership sales presentation, and the pricing seemed inconsistent depending on where guests were from.
There were also many spring break groups, making the atmosphere very loud and party-oriented. One night police even showed up at the resort.
Overall
For the price it was worth it, especially since we were traveling as a group of six. However, the resort is small, crowded, and very noisy, so it may be better for short stays or spring-break style trips than a relaxing vacation.
Honestly, thanks to the incredible staff, we are giving this a better review than we otherwise might have.

The rooms are basic, I certainly wouldn't call them 4 star, but they are spotlessly clean, large, the beds are comfortable and the shower is hot and powerful.
Where this hotel comes into it's own is the buffet.
I'm not an all inclusive type of guy, we've done the Maldives, we've done Madeira and was bored on both occasions by day 4.
Also my Mrs being Thai, gets bored even quicker, not here, I have never known my Mrs to go without Thai food for so long, we've had one Thai meal in 8 days, she absolutely loved the buffet food here.
They also have Italian, a Sea food & a Mexican restaurants.
The Italian was good, definitely would go again, the Mexican we're doing on our last night, but the sea food was poor.
The waiter's are hot and cold , the majority are really good, but one stand out was a guy called Vanilly, looked after us like we were the only people in a very very busy buffet restaurant, a lovely guy, worth his wages 10 times over.
The beach is small, but great breeze off the ocean, coupled with the cocktails from the beach bar, makes it a fantastic location.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone & this is

So there was so much good and bad with this property, it just depends the kinda person you are an your vacation goals and values.
Pros for me was customer service, Henry the bartender near the beach was awesome!!! The buffet had a bit of everything and that staff partied with us daily, kept the shots coming, the house keeping was on top of all our wants and needs refilled the waters and drinks, location and ride share was easy and walking was great. The beds, pillows and comforters were wonderful. The Dj played Spanish an English songs. The property attempted to keep the beach as clean as possible. It’s easy to figure out on your own. Pretty water, nice seeing the yacht a pirate ships.
Good & bad: the entertainment is soso depending what you are used to at home. the gym has equipment but not much for lower body with machines. The spa is a soft pressure rub but if you explain you don’t want that or if you don’t like something they will fix it immediately if you are honest so make sure you say firm.
Cons: check in was a hassle, they wanted me an my friend to share a bed even tho we expected 3 beds. Some staff is pushy at upselling, we booked for the time share property not this location and we were not given that location. No business center. Internet it sketchy in a bad way but included a better when you leave the room. Desserts are horrible and the food at the buffet tasted better than the restaurants. If you walk down the beach you see how dirty the ocean is. Vendors are pushy. Music is loud if your room is near it. Elevator takes too long. Luggage scale did not work. ATMs were also not working. No conversion signs.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding service from Carlo – truly grateful! Date Jan 17 to Jan 22 2026
Carlo was absolutely incredible during our stay and made a huge difference for my mother-in-law and her friends. My mother-in-law is Muslim and wasn’t comfortable eating at the buffet due to religious dietary restrictions (pork being present), and Carlo handled everything with so much kindness, respect, and genuine care.
He went above and beyond by speaking with the kitchen and arranging fresh seafood meals for her, which made her feel comfortable, welcomed, and looked after every day. It was such a thoughtful and special experience, and it honestly took a lot of stress away from our trip.
Thank you so much, Carlo, for making this resort experience so smooth and enjoyable for them. People with religious restrictions often struggle while traveling, and your support meant everything. Highly recommend and truly appreciate you! 🙏✨
