Great 4-night stay here in June 2026. This is a huge hotel and I didn't get to explore all of it during the time we were here, but what I did see was excellent.
From check-in - there was a slight problem with our reservation (we had booked 2 rooms but only 1 was showing), but the check-in staff sorted it in a few minutes.
Rooms were lovely. Large, good air-con, both with balconies and very comfortable beds. Absolutely nothing to fault.
The pool we used was well maintained, with a bar and various dining options right at the side of the loungers.
Breakfast was a real highlight, one of the best buffets I have seen recently, and the option to eat overlooking the pool is a nice dining area was a perfect start to the day.
We ate out at the Rubicon Marina most nights, but on return to the hotel we had drinks and watched some live entertainment which was perfectly understated and not over the top.
Highly recommended if you are visiting Playa Blanca.

First time staying at this hotel but definitely won't be our last. We can't fault it. Staff are amazing and helpful. Rooms spacious, comfy and super clean ( we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite as my birthday whilst here - and hotel were fantastic; came back to room with balloons and champagne for two!!) The pool is best one we have seen, cleaned every day as is pool area. More private sunbathing areas if you want. Food wise, we just had breakfast which is first class - great variety, lovely restaurant and a bonus that it lasts until 11am. The hotel is right in centre of Marina Rubicon which is beautiful, variety of restaurants and a good market Saturday and Wednesday. We would highly recommend this hotel and will be returning next year!!

I am staying at this hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful and its location, close to the marina, is really pleasant. The staff are attentive, friendly and genuinely helpful, speaking French. The rooms are spacious, clean and well maintained (every day).
Unfortunately, there are a few major downsides that prevent this from feeling like a true 5-star experience.
First of all, the bedding is terrible. The spring mattresses are extremely uncomfortable. I suffer from back problems and I've been waking up during the night with back pain. My wife has experienced exactly the same. It honestly feels like sleeping on a wooden board, might be good for heavier persons but for me it is a real problem for a hotel of such standard.
Secondly, the dinner buffet is a real disappointment, it is clearly undersized for the number of guests on half-board, and the hotel isn't even close to being full. I'd estimate occupancy at around 30% and we had to fight this evening for simple pastas.
The quality of the food is also far below what I would expect from a 5-star hotel. The starters are perfectly fine, but the main courses are another story. There are only two-three options available, served in very limited quantities and they are not particularly appealing.
Having stayed in many hotels over the years in all Canadian islands, I've experienced much better dinner buffets in 4-star establishments including RIU hotels.
The desserts are equally disappointing and taste like frozen, mass-produced products.
Breakfast however is quite good and varied.
In conclusion, despite the lovely setting and the staff, I am very disappointed by the overall value for money. For the price paid, the hotel simply does not deliver the level of comfort and dining experience one would reasonably expect from a 5-star property.
At this point, I'm almost looking forward to going to bed although admittedly, that's not saying much given the mattress.
And for dinner there are so much (quality) choice around, it is a shame.

Absolutely loved this hotel from arrival to departure 😄...whole architecture on arrival is stunning! The rooms were large & kept immaculate ,if I had to be picky I would say bathroom could do with a update and just install shower instead of bath/shower. Food was lovely,so much choice, meat cooked to order, something for everyone. Always plenty of sunbeds dotted around different areas & levels in the complex, you didn't feel like you had to get up at dawn to reserve a sunbed, if you went at 11am you would definitely find one 😊...The hotel location was brilliant too, on Playa Blanca marina, lovely walk either to Playa Blanca or papagayo beaches probably each taking 40 mins along coastline. Would like to say a special thank you to the lovely restaurant manageress, she was so welcoming each evening & also the lovely Mercedes 😘....she would be so chatty and always had a smile and had time to have a chat about football with my husband each evening as the world cup matches progressed🤣....well we loved it here so much we booked to come again in October,so highly recommend !

We have just returned from a 12-night stay at the Volcán Hotel Playa Blanca, where we stayed in the Adults Club section, and we had a fabulous time
The amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to make this hotel such a wonderful place to stay is truly exceptional and is reflected in every aspect of the guest experience. From the warm welcome at reception to the room service teams, everyone was friendly, professional, and always willing to help.
The hotel is beautifully maintained, the Adults Club provided a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, and we couldn’t fault our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute and will definitely be returning. Thank you to everyone who made our holiday so special.
