I recently stayed at R2 Pájara Beach, and overall it delivered exactly what we needed — sunshine, warmth, and a proper winter reset away from the UK. The location is undeniably beautiful. The hotel sits right on the beachfront with stunning blue-green sea views, and just to the left there’s a gorgeous sandy nudist beach that became our favourite spot. We spent most of our time there, taking our own water bottles as it was only a five-minute walk back to the hotel bar.
The room was large, with a comfortable double bed and a balcony set slightly back but still offering pool views and a distant sea view. It was clean, and fresh towels were available daily (one blue pool towel provided for the stay). For five nights it was perfectly adequate, though the décor could do with a refresh. There’s no coffee-making facility in the room, which would have been appreciated.
Food-wise, there was a good selection, particularly if you’re looking to eat relatively healthily for a short stay. The ice cream was excellent, and the red wine was surprisingly good. That said, with only one main restaurant and one primary bar, queues were common. For five days the variety was fine, but for a longer stay it might start to feel repetitive.
There were some frustrations. The WiFi was horrendous — unreliable and very slow. The “all inclusive” offering had multiple exclusions: the beachfront bar wasn’t included (despite being the only proper place you could sit comfortably and smoke with a drink), pool tables weren’t included, and the beachfront sunbeds cost an additional €50 — again, the only real designated smoking area on the resort besides your balcony. Paper cups were used everywhere except the restaurant, which cheapened the experience somewhat.
Entertainment was minimal — only two actual shows in five nights, with quizzes filling the other evenings. There wasn’t much atmosphere in the hotel overall. While there were occasional lovely staff members, most interactions felt abrupt or unfriendly. A slightly odd rule was the prohibition of wearing a boob tube at breakfast, which seemed unnecessary for a beachfront hotel.
The guest demographic was noticeably older — I’d estimate around 80% over 75 — though many appeared to be repeat visitors and were very friendly.
In summary: this is a hotel in a stunning location, perfect for soaking up sun and vitamin D during a short winter escape. It’s ideal if you’re going primarily for warmth, relaxation, and beach time rather than lively entertainment or a premium all-inclusive experience. Beautiful setting, but operationally and atmospherically it could improve.

Feb 2026 - spent a week at this hotel as a couple. Rooms were clean and large and have just been refurbished . We had an excellent sea view from the balcony. The tv connects to Netflix and the Wi-Fi was good im the rooms and was free. Towels are provided which you can use at the nearby beaches which are excellent.
All the staff from reception to waiters and bar staff were brilliant.
Plenty of food choice at meal times. Yes it’s not the ritz but it’s very good value for money. Plenty of Sun loungers around the pool.
Cava is provided throughout and the beer is the local tropical brand. The sangria was fine too.
Costa Calma is a quiet resort but was adequate for us. The new Piano bar at the hotel is a lovely spot for a quiet evening drink and good coffee is served here.
There is activities organised through the day and night time evening shows.
We never had to queue more than a minute for any services. We can’t fault the hotel for what we paid and had a great week. Big shout to the lovely reception staff who made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived.

We have spent one week in this hotel and I could not imagine better Christmas vacation. The hotel is beautifully located close to various beaches, the garden is extremely well managed and there is a huge variety of plants to admire. The whole Staff (reception, kitchen, bar, cleaning, garden, animation) is exceptionally kind, respectful and professional, I felt welcome at any time I had interaction with any Staff member. The gym is spacious and well equipped (new machines). We also used twice the tennis court that has views to the ocean.
The room was very clean and quiet, we loved the fact it was neither close to the swimming pool nor the restaurant. It was close to the beach, though. It's been great.
The food was delicious, with huge variety - fruit, vegetables, salads, meat, fish, desserts, all kind of beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic and different kinds of bread. A lot of to choose from. The Christmas dinner was an absolutely beautiful experience, delicious food, elegant ambient and coziness. I would really like to thank the Kitchen Staff for having prepared everything and worked so hard so that the hotel guests could have such an amazing Christmas experience. Thank You.

Very pleased with our stay. Room/bathroom /shower was spacious. Never slept so well on holiday! Was really quiet at night ( at least in our wing, 2nd floor , room 2223). They count their floors from the top, so top floor is first. Enjoyed the entertainment, really liked the variety, you could either watch the entertainment or go to the next floor to a disco with a bar. The only downside was the food, it wasn't bad, but could be better. It was ok, average. Altogether can definitely recommend. We had a great time. The best cappuccino is at the pool bar. Loved to greenery, palms, grass, trees, well looked after.

Just returned from a week's stay here, from the moment of our arrival we found the staff very friendly and very efficient. The room was a bit tired, but as others have said renovation is going on, the noise was an issue if you went back to your room later in the afternoon, before dinner ,on a couple of occasions work did go on until nearly 7pm. We had a very relaxing time the pools are lovely, a short stroll to the beach, the grounds are lovely ,colourful and well maintained, the sea view sunbeds which you can hire for the day are worth it ,with numbers 4, 5, 6, or 7 seeming to have the best views of the sea. The food was excellent, with a very good choice at every meal , my wife thought some of the food could have been a little hotter ,finding somethings luke warm, but was more than happy with the fresh crispy salads, for me it produced the best full English breakfast I have had outside the UK. We would be more than happy to return here hopefully in a refurbished room when the renovation is complete.
