We’ve had a wonderful first stay in Crete at Grecotel Plaza Beach House in Rethymno. It is a delightful city hotel with a cozy feel and incredibly friendly, helpful staff. Mike and the front desk staff went above and beyond to assist us throughout our visit. We were delighted when they upgraded our room, and having a kitchen in the apartment was a fantastic perk. Everything was clean and comfortable, thanks to the very kind housekeeping crew. A huge thank you to Theo and his wonderful breakfast team for their warm and friendly service. The breakfast buffet was a real highlight of our stay—the food quality was superb, fresh, and beautifully presented!
We felt incredibly safe at the pool thanks to Despina, the amazing lifeguard. She was always alert, watching the water with total focus, and stepping in immediately to stop any unsafe games. This dedication allowed us as parents to completely relax and unwind. While I noticed she had to correct a few parents during our stay, she did so with absolute professionalism. Despina is excellent at assessing risks and calling out unsafe behaviour. For any parent who lets their guard down on holiday, her sharp eyes and vital role are things we should deeply appreciate.
We had an unforgettable holiday and will definitely choose to stay here again on our next visit to Crete!

We came back after 3 years and the hotel is still absolutely amazing 👏 very friendly staff, great food, and lovely daily cocktails made by great bartender Mixalis 👌🏻 The hotel has it's own beach as well. 100% recommend and deffinitely will be back at some point. Thank you for making our stay so wonderful ❤️

There is no spa/hot tub and the "heated" pool is still very cold. I was quite disappointed by that because of course in April the sea is too cold to swim. I expected to be able to relax at the hotel pool but it was very cold. There is another tiny pool which looks like a spa but it's for tiny kids.
I was also disappointed that the kitchenette did not contain many items needed for cooking and cleaning up. There is no dishwasher or dish drying rack, no cutting board or actual knives, even for cutting bread we bought. The countertop is very tiny so it made cooking quite difficult. We had booked a different resort with a full kitchen and they moved us here so that's why it was important to me.
The location is great though, right across from the beach and the sunbeds are very comfortable with big umbrellas and tables. Very quiet hotel overall.
They don't provide ice either, maybe that's a Greek thing, but I use a lot of ice in my drinks. So when I asked for ice at the bar, the bartender glared at me and scooped a few tiny scoops of ice into my cup. She seemed annoyed I would even ask.
Final thing, the shower is very weird. It's a small bathtub with a hose type shower nozzle but a tiny glass wall so when the water hits your body, it gets all your stuff and the bathroom floor and toilet all wet. Terrible design for a "4 star" hotel. No hooks for towels either, only the towel bar by the shower which gets all wet.
I will say, the front desk staff was very kind and friendly, helping with anything as best they could.

Rooms were cold and dated. Pictures were unrealistic. The a/c was smelly the filters. The parking lot that is located on a different building was full so I had to look for parking my self at 2am! I paid 65euros for 10 items of dirty clothes because I was traveling to another city so I needed the clean clothes. Breakfast was good and Staff was very nice and the people were ready to help anytime.

I stayed at Plaza Beach House with my family of three during Easter break this year. The hotel is very beautiful, clean rooms and territory, warm water in the pools. All staff, from reception to restaurant, were so lovely, helpful, positive, and really good with kids. I would return and recommend for all families with kids.
