The resort is largely split between the Castillo bungalows and the Mar hotel rooms as thebungalows often use the Mar facilities. We prefer the location of the Mar but the room layout of the bungalows.
The breakfast has a much larger choice than the Castillo although if you ask the hotel, it tries to say it's exactly the same. We find the staff in the Mar really friendly but the housekeeping at the Castillo is very good indeed.
We opted for half board and we enjoyed breakfast, a light snack for lunch and ate out for our entertainment and evening meals which we really enjoyed the best for our holiday.
On a lunchtime the hotel makes you buy water which is quite expensive purely to make money. It's a bad environment policy as all of the bottles they serve are glass. Other hotel instead of having water stations to reuse water bottles you can purchase and save on the environment impact of the glass bottles. The hotel is putting profit before the environment.
Overall we have had a good holiday.

We had a lovely stay at Barceló Mar, especially visiting in February. The weather was perfect — around 21–23°C — not too hot, just right for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings.
The area is calm and peaceful, which made it ideal for family time. The atmosphere around the hotel is great if you want to unwind and recharge.
The food was very good for an all-inclusive resort, with plenty of choice each day. The service from the team was excellent, especially the Ropizzo team — Etiore, Alba, Jesica, and Fatima — along with the restaurant hosts. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and always smiling, doing their best to make sure guests are happy. Their positive attitude really made a difference to our experience.
Regarding the room (Deluxe Premium), it was comfortable but could benefit from some renovation and updating. It wasn’t bad, just not quite at the same level as the rest of the hotel.
Overall:
Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)
Room ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)
Overall, we had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday and would definitely consider coming back.

Our stay at Fuerterventure Mar was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. The hotel creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere the moment you arrive, with friendly staff who genuinely go out of their way to make guests feel comfortable and cared for.
The rooms were spotless, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, offering a perfect balance of comfort and style. We especially loved the peaceful ambiance — it made relaxing after a day of exploring incredibly easy. The beds were very comfortable, and everything felt fresh, modern, and well-maintained.
The location is another major highlight. It’s ideally situated for enjoying both the beautiful surroundings and nearby attractions, while still feeling calm and private. The views were stunning, particularly at sunrise and sunset.
Dining was also a standout feature. The food was consistently delicious, with plenty of variety and high quality ingredients. Every meal felt like a treat, and the restaurant staff were attentive and welcoming.
Overall, Fuerterventure Mar delivers an exceptional experience. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into every detail, and it truly feels like a place where guests can relax, recharge, and enjoy a memorable stay. We would happily return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic holiday experience.

This was our second visit to a Barcelo hotel, the first being in Costa Teguise last year.
The staff were very helpful in all areas, everyone greeted you with a good morning or 'buenos dias'.The hotel is ideally situated for all local amenities, there are quite a few shops, pharmacies and bars in the immediate area. The hotel is quite large over 486 rooms. Our room was OK,I have dropped a star as the room was in need of a bit of TLC. The inside of the drawers were shabby, and the walls in our shower had some plaster coming off. The bed was big and very comfy, the TV had BBC1 and ITV1 on it so you could catch up on the news or soaps if that's your thing!
The beach is literally on the doorstep and there is a good linear walk on the promenade both ways on the front of the hotel. There is a big supermarket about 1 and a half miles away from the hotel which can be reached via the promenade. Highly suitable for wheelchairs and disabled scooters.
There are also sports amenities which I made full use of about 2 minutes from the hotel. This is included with your stay. The fully equipped gym was clean, a bit of a disappointment was the rowing machine which frequently had no or defective straps on the footplates which was a bit annoying!
The spa is also attached to the gym . My wife had a hot stones massage and said it was one of the best that she has experienced. The hydrotherapy pools, steam room ,sauna and relaxation areas are to be throughly recommended. There is also a crazy golf course in front of the hotel. I think you can obtain a small discount if you are a guest in the Barcelo Mar.
The pool area was really big with plenty of sunbeds €20 to hire beach towels which was refunded, however €2 to change the towel if you so needed to. The safe deposit box will cost you €30 for the duration of your stay.
The food was really good with the breakfast having a wide variety of choice. The evening meal was for me not as good ,the food quality was excellent but it felt a bit like a big canteen.
All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Barcelo Mar. Would I recommend it ? Yes I would is the honest answer, although the hotel needs to pay attention to the small things ,as they say ,the devil is in the detail.
Oh just one other thing, if you are thinking of hiring a top-end bike i.e. a road racer, book on line before you go !

This hotel is exceptional. We stopped for a short 4 day break from the UK. We paid for the premium package upgrade. My wife is disabled and the entire hotel is code compliant. The food is of a very high quality in the hotel. Try also the Mexican and the 🇧🇷 specialist restaurants. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Everyone is attentive and engaging. Thank you so much. We will be back. Thanks to Alvaro, Jannike, Carmen, Mari and Pau. Wonderful holiday.
