Albufeira
Albufeira is a former fishing village which has evolved into the bustling tourist capital of the Algarve.
A total of 23 fabulous sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, enchanting cliff-lined coast and pulsating nightlife make it a great city for an unforgettable holiday in the sun.
Albufeira, which is a former fortified Roman town, has a population of around 40,000 and its architecture sees traditional old white houses and new commercial buildings blending together perfectly.
A network of narrow cobbled streets converges at the main square, Largo Duarte Pacheco and a modern marina is a popular spot where you’ll discover a lively bar scene and several captivating historical sights nearby.
This popular resort is perfect for families, couples and singles craving a feast of fun in Portugal’s southernmost region.
There’s no shortage of water sports action on many of Albufeira’s wonderful beaches and there’s also the option to enjoy boat excursions, banana boat rides, fishing trips and dolphin-watching adventures.
The two main beaches are Praia dos Pescadores (Fisherman’s beach) and Praia do Túnel which are ideal for catching some rays and enjoying a meal in a host of superb seafood restaurants along the seafront.
After spending a day on the beach you can enjoy a night on the town in a huge range of charming restaurants, bars and clubs. The Areias de São João area is particularly vibrant and is home to The Strip in Avenida Dr Francisco Sà Carneiro where you can party from dusk till dawn.
The summer months are the busiest time in Albufeira but it’s also popular in autumn and winter when some holidaymakers opt for a crowd-free getaway.
Among the main attractions in Albufeira are the aquatic theme park Zoomarine, Krazy World Zoo, Sant’ana Church and the ruins of Paderne Castle.

Sat by the pool writing this review. Cannot fault this hotel. Yes it’s a little dated but as soon as we arrived the reception and staff have been superb. The receptionist with the red hair is fantastic and my 8 year old loves her. The pool is brilliant nice and large and with different depths for all ages and abilities. Lovely chilled music throughout the day round the pool. No need to get up at stupid o’clock to reserve beds in the height of season. Can stroll down and easy get a group of 4 or 5 loungers at any time of the day. Location is perfect 5 mins either way to the old town or the strip in the opposite direction. The rooms are huge and yes dated but clean and no noise on an evening. Peroni and super bock on draught. Shop on site and no issues as per previous reviews. Spot on in my view.

I stayed at Paraíso de Albufeira during my recent trip. The room was clean and comfortable, and the reception staff were very nice and welcoming throughout my stay.
However, there were some issues that affected my overall experience. I cut my foot in the jacuzzi because part of the metal was loose, which was concerning from a safety point of view. Also, access to the swimming pool requires booking in advance, which was not clearly explained beforehand.
Many of the hotel facilities require additional payment. There is a small star next to some of the rules, but it’s not very clear what this means until you arrive, which can be confusing.
The restaurant staff were not very helpful, and the service there did not feel as welcoming as the reception team. On a positive note, the supermarket inside the hotel is very convenient and has good prices, similar to shops outside.
Overall, the hotel has some good points, especially the cleanliness and friendly reception staff, but there are areas that need improvement, particularly safety, communication about extra charges, and customer service in the restaurant.

To keep this short, believe me when I say I could write an essay about everything that is wrong with this hotel.
In summary:
This is definitely not a 4-star hotel—more like 2 or 3 stars. It looks nothing like the photos, is very outdated, and the room was not what I believed I had booked. There was no point complaining because the staff simply ignored any issues raised and blamed Loveholidays for putting wrong pictures.
This is not a family-friendly hotel. It was mostly filled with young adults partying until the early hours every night. The walls are paper-thin, so it felt like they were partying in our room. My children and I couldn't sleep, and I had to call reception every single night, but pointless as every night was the same.
The indoor pool felt unsafe—you could actually feel the floor moving under your feet, and it looked dirty all the time.
There was very little entertainment or animation, although fortunately my children weren't too bothered by this.
The food and drink prices around the pool were ridiculously expensive. You would think you were eating in a fine dining restaurant rather than buying simple snacks.
Overall, this hotel was a huge disappointment, and I would not recommend it, especially to families looking for a relaxing holiday.

Currently staying here, the air con doesn't work (the fridge is colder) had the maintenance man out twice, the hair dryer doesn't work, keeps cutting out. I am sat with wet hair, and cant get ready in peace as i am waiting for the maintenance guy for a third time today. The pillows are like cotton wool. I had to ask for a table and chairs for my balcony and i dont have a clothes aired to put any washing on. Been coming to this hotel for 5 years and genuinely I an honestly say I wont be coming back. Currently waiting to be told if i can move rooms or not! 🤦🏽♀️🤣

Stayed here in August, booked through love holidays.
Bathroom had toothpaste spit in the sink. Long hairs everywhere. Bathroom was held together with white silicone around plug holes etc, grout was stained with mould.
Room was ok bed had a memory foam mattress topper but bed and mattresswas very old and tatty. Switches were loose on wall, some plugs worked and others didn't, air conditioning was so bad i was waking up at night sweating. My brother in law also had the same issue with his room electrics etc.
Microwave had dirt on the outside of it so I didn't even bother opening it, kitchen appliances were worn out to say the least, buttons and switches missing, door on fridge was lob sided where the hinge had worn away, freezer door didn't close properly so ice dripped down all over the fridge.
Got clean towels daily was probable the only good thing about the room
Pool had loose tiles around it, bottom of pool was full of grit and dirt, broken lights in pool, one which was just floating around with the wire attached several days after it being reported to staff.
Kids activities were excellent at the pool, didn't do the kids club as mine are too old for that.
Pool generally had a good atmosphere although food was a bit pricey for what you got (€15 for a medium pizza).
Staff were very friendly and helpful with excellent English.
Tried to have a pint in the hotel lobby with my family and the bar man followed me out of the hotel bar in to the hotel lobby with a plastic cup and proceeded to pour my pint into it as I was not allowed out of the bar with a glass.
Hotel I'd say has not been renovated since it was built and shows it everywhere you look. Maintenance at this stage is more to keep it functional than maintain a standard [even a low standard]. I would call this a 2 star hotel and definitely not 4

The hotel is fantastic and the staff are super helpful. The on-site bar offers a wide selection of drinks and food. The rooms were clean and cleaned daily.
Our only downside was the fact there was no fridge in our room. Just double check the spec of room you order.
The hotel is in an excellent position for both the old town, the strip and the many beaches.

Lovely little hotel with friendly caring staff. The rooms are on the small side but have everything you need. The bathrooms are good and for those that want to know the showers are great. The pool has places for 15 to 20 sunbeds and is a sun trap but has areas of shade to cool down in. It's about a 10 minute walk from the strip and 20 from the old town at tourist pace. This was my second trip and the main reason we went back was the wonderful service from the staff. The room was cleaned every day and fresh towels were provided every day. I want to mention Maria and Paulo in particular as they helped us deal with a very poor transfer company and got us to the airport on time. We will be going again.

We had a great stay! The room was clean and well maintained, and the staff were always friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent with a good variety of options. The pool is small but very nice and perfect for relaxing.
The location is fantastic – just a short walk to the beach and also very close to the party area with bars and restaurants.
Overall, we highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again!

Wow we’ve had the best holiday and thanks to this amazing hotel. Location is brilliant, 10 minute stroll to the strip and 20 mins slow walk to the old town. The room was excellent -205- superior double and it certainly was superior. The staff couldn’t do enough for you too which is refreshing. Had a breakfast there and it was cooked with love and best quality food. Would highly recommend a stay here it was just perfect. Thanks for making us feel so welcome - Sally Jones stayed a week 15-22 nd June 2026

A fantastic stay at KR Albufeira Lounge. From start to finish, everything was smooth and enjoyable. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, and everyone contributed to making the holiday feel relaxed and stress-free.
The hotel offers excellent value for money, and the overall experience exceeded expectations. Would definitely return and would happily recommend it to others looking for a comfortable and easy-going stay in Albufeira.

We absolutely loved our holiday here. The whole resort is so spacious, the pool areas are large and I have never been on holiday where I feel like I have more space. The gym is basic but a great addition. We personally loved the location being outside of Albufeira main town where it is very loud. There is a sense of peace and calm outside of the town which I don't think you could find if you were staying down there. It is close to Farm Village burger restaurant which we absolutely loved! A small Pingo shop is about 20 mins walk away and you can stock up on essentials there. The walk into Albufeira is an easy 30 mins down a safe path i.e. a pedestrianised walkway, no roads and very safe. The apartments are spacious and clean. We will definitely be back as the value is so good for what you get.

Staff were friendly, helpful and approachable. Pools were clean and well maintained. Food in restaurant and cafe was amazing, fresh and tasty. Rooms were well designed and styled and had everything you needed, only downside was there was little or no soundproofing and we could hear the neighbours, but reception staff moved our room and the second was much better. Main town Albufeira was only a 35 minute walk from the resort, and a Pingo Duce was only 20 minutes walk away.

100/10!!!!
I was worried about the reviews, but oh my goodness. The apartment was homely, I cooked almost every day! The pool was nice; a bar/restaurant literally opposite us. The staff were amazing. We don’t leave until Wednesday; but wanted to write this review right now. Our apartment was cleaning every other two days. The pool is clean, we went on a walk around the village and it’s LOVELYYYYYY. We are definitely going to make this a yearly thing.

Don't believe all the negative reviews. We spent 3 nights here all inclusive last week, and have to say the hotel was in a perfect location, right on the beach, a short walk along the beach and your at the old town. The buffet food had a good variety, and we enjoyed all the food we ate there. The cocktails of the day went down a treat. Yes I have to agree the rooms are a little dated.. we were in C block, on level one, so approaching our room looked dark and a little unwelcoming, but the room its self was bright and welcoming, with daily cleaning and fresh towels every 2 days. The added bonus of a balcony and sea view. All in all for a 3 star budget hotel, I think we got good value for money and we would return again. I have also seen some comments on the slow return of the damage deposit... we checked out at 3.30am and it was back on my card by that evening, so I could not complain at that.

Absolutely disgusting hotel never ever have I experienced anything like it when staying in a hotel . I wouldnt recommend it to anybody. Miserable receptionists. On arrival they demand 200 euros deposit. When leaving we only received half of it back. Two pools far away from one another. One part of the hotel looked more like a prison. Food Absolutely disgusting 🤮. Drinks terrible. Entertainment wasn't bad . This hotel is not close to the new or old town. Everything up hill. Not many sun lounges pools very dirty. Snack bar food very poor. Tasteless. Dry tasteless bread . Cockroaches in the room in the bathroom also. Cracked tiles. Toilet very loose. Floors very slippery. Beach was lovely. Spent most my days wondering what to eat. Same food everyday. Very dissatisfied.

After reading mixed reviews I felt super apprehensive about this hotel however I’ve never felt more wrong. The facilities were great, looked more modern than some of the pictures show, our room was clean and safe. The breakfast was surprisingly really nice - something for everyone, the all inclusive snacks/ drinks around the pool made it worth it. The pool was incredible, made it nice being right next to the beach too. There was nice vibes around the hotel experienced no issues at all and couldn’t recommend highly enough (ignore all the negative reviews you’ll be pleasantly surprised) would definitely return!

Hotel Monica Isabel met all our expectations. In addition to the fact that the Algarve coast offers beautiful nature, long clean beaches, we chose this hotel for accommodation also due to the price and the services offered for this price. The hotel is older and I would like to thank everyone again for taking care of the building, it is not easy, the area is large and yet it is clean and quiet. Minor shortcomings - sometimes you have to wait longer for the elevator, sometimes you have a noisy neighbor who sings in the morning. :). Maybe the bars could be open earlier so that we could enjoy excellent coffee and drinks on the terrace at the reception or by the pool. The hotel has an excellent location, just a few meters from the beautiful beach. You can get to the beach by a wooden bench - steps. The beach is clean, and what you will appreciate - on the top floor of the hotel there is a restaurant with a beautiful view of the beach and the city. We were very satisfied with the food, in the bars too. The food was varied, the staff and the chefs should be commended for the exceptionally pleasant moments during the meal. I am not the type of traveler who looks for faults, I would certainly find them here too. On the contrary, I will write that I thank the hotel management and all the staff from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful moments I was able to experience on the Algarve coast and at the Monica Isabel Hotel. I wish you many satisfied guests, keep up the quality of the food and the view of the ocean. I would be happy to come back to you. Ivetka.

Had a lovely week here. Our apartment was spacious with a living room and kitchen area, bedroom and bathroom with shower over the bath. We were pleased to have a gorgeous sea view. There are lots of steps so the site isn't good for those with mobility issues. The breakfast was buffet style and there was plenty of choice. We didn't have other meals. The hotel had two pools and was right on the beach front. We enjoyed several walks along the coast.

The best hotel ive ever been to on holiday! My number 1 thing was that the travel cots actually have a proper mattress, been to many hotels and never had this so really appreciated it. Everything was great from start to finish. Food was amazing (and I have high standards). They do a different theme each night for dinner and I loved seeing what was going to be the show stopper dish at the top of the serving area each night. Great kids slides and play area. 5 lifts so never had to wait long. Rooftop view was incredible. Staff has always freshened up our room before noon. Well staffed and clean hotel. LOVED! the meal at the taberna, it would be a highlight. The bouncy castle was reasonably priced and the evening shows were great.
Would definitely go back and recommend to everyone I know.

We chose this hotel for our first family holiday with our daughter who is nearly 6 months. The location is half an hour from the airport and the hotel organised our transfer very efficiently car seat included so one less thing to bring with us! We had an exceptional check in experience - the gentleman looking after us made we got settled in very quickly which we appreciated. The original cot in the room was a bit big for our baby and getting a smaller one was no big deal - a sign of a great family hotel. Both of the hotel restaurants were great, again, the service was fantastic in both and the meal was enjoyable even with a baby. There was great variety in the buffet for dinner especially and the drinks were great, the bar staff work very hard. The cleanliness of the hotel is unparalleled - the rooms, common areas and dining errors are spotless. Our daughter was a bit small for some of the facilities but she loved swimming in the baby pool, it was fine temperature wise as it was mid/late 20s all week. I even got to the Spa Circuit a few times - it was a very high quality spa and a relaxing atmosphere. Overall, I would high recommend this hotel for a first family holiday and we hope to return again some day.

This hotel had everything we needed. Beware though, it is located out on a limb. To get to the Old Town and The Marina requires transport. Uber is about €5 each way to the Old Town and about €7 to the Marina. We never had to wait more than a few minutes. The hotel puts on a mini bus that operates on a first come first served basis and does not run in the evenings.
The food options are comprehensive with lots of variations in cuisine. Sometimes the quality of cooking left a bit to be desired, especially in the meat department. A lot of the meat was a bit chewy and tasteless. Almost every fried egg was half fried so I decided to leave well alone. The kids section was basic and a little unimaginative. What there was for children was well presented and tasty enough. Got a bit boring after 10 days.
The main pool was exceptional with a bar with friendly attentive staff. Plenty of sun beds most of the time. Even though the rules say that you can’t reserve a sun bed, obviously everyone did so anyway. Reserving started early at about 7.00am so someone in your group needs to be an early riser.
The 7 water slides were great for adults and kids.
The Animation Team were outstanding. Rafa & Lara stood out in terms of their warmth, humour and energy. The Moana show was amazing and all the kids were encouraged to take part and have fun. Daisy, our 10 year old loved every minute of it and wishes that we go back next year. Not because of all the facilities that the hotel boasts but more about the people that stood out in making our holiday special, The Animation Team.
This hotel is not cheap, so for me it’s the little things that matter most. Do they really need to charge extra for the minor on site attractions like trampolines, bouncy play equipment or inflatable Balls that kids climb into on the pool (€7 for 5 minutes)? €5 for a child to get a candy floss seemed unnecessary to me. Just give the kids a candy floss. I suspect the items I’m questioning are outsourced to private individuals so that would explain it.
Loved the roof top bar. Great views and nice and breezy on an evening.
Would I go back? Yes I probably would. Good overall with friendly attentive staff.
Once again a special shout out for the Animation Team, in particular Lara & Rafa

This place is a seriously well run and well organised hotel. The staff are super helpful, the foods decent and the rooms are spacious, modern and comfortable. Rooms have big walk in showers, a safe, kettle and good air con
The kids loved it. They have a decent kids buffet daily, with all the things kids from the uk would want to eat. Ours (8 & 11 years old) ate well every day. There’s a pool side snack bar in the afternoons doing burgers, hotdogs sandwiches and cakes too
The pools are huge and heated.
The gyms good albeit a bit hot for cardio work but plenty of machines and free weights to use
One slight downside is the kids games room is a bit poor. A couple of old dated pool tables and some old arcade games - this could all do with updating as the kids were at a bit of a loose end some eves
Pool side entertainment at the big pool is good (and noisy!) but the smaller pool is nice and quiet if you prefer a quitter day
Slides - brilliant kids loved them
The strip nearby is not suitable for kids in the evening so head to the old town if ya heading out at night. It’s rough down there and defo not suitable for youngsters
We had a couple of birthdays whilst we were there and staff made a decent fuss of it which was nice
Over all we had a really good stay and I’d recommend it. 9/10

We stayed here for 6 days and had a really good overall experience. The service was great, staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The food was also very good, and we liked that the buffet changed every night, which kept things interesting.
The gym was a big highlight for me – really well equipped and one of the best hotel gyms I’ve used.
The swimming pool was slightly on the cold side, especially later in the day, but it wasn’t a major issue.
Sunday dinner was particularly impressive, with oysters and a good selection of seafood. The Asian-themed night was also very enjoyable – the sushi was surprisingly good. The only downside was the grill, which was a bit overcooked and quite tough.
Drinks were good, and the room was comfortable and clean.
Overall, my family really loved the stay, and we’d happily come back again in the future.

Just spent a week at the albufeira sol over-all it was pretty good. The room was huge ( studio ) and had great aircon two actually but they do take half the balcony up and blow hot air on you if you sit out . The food was a little bit limited compared to most all inclusives but was very nice. Location was very close to the main strip and the hotel does have quite a lot of youths staying but it never got to rowdy to be fair .Free shuttle bus to the old town which is handy , We did have ants in the room which although we did report to reception day one they were there for the week around the bed . Drinks are served in flimsy plastic or paper cups at all times ( beers cocktails and coffee ) if you want to sit outside and unless you ask you will get it indoors too . You can get a meal in the speciality restaurant which was nice but for some reason you have to pay for your drinks in there even though its all inclusive makes no sense .
Just these little things let it down it would be nice to sit out in the evening without the nasty plastic cups or in the morning with a brew .
Amy Grocutt
Rooms are a nice size although seem rather dated but are very clean. Aircon could be a bit hit and miss, bedroom one could only be turned on manually as the remote didn’t seem to turn it on / off but the living room one was fine.
When first arriving there were puddles of water on the floor which seemed to be from a leak in the ceiling however this was cleared by the morning. Reception staff not particularly friendly, wasn’t sure we’d arrived at the correct hotel at first as they didn’t even look up when we first approached.
Food for all inclusive is okay, good choice throughout the stay however some of the male staff are very rude. Sergio (one of the staff in the dining room) noticed we were sat at a larger table rather than a table for 2 so instead of asking us to relocate he dragged the table while I was still sat at it saying loudly this is a table for more people. He couldn’t even wait for me to get up and stop eating. Just seemed unnecessary.
Drinks package for the all inclusive isn’t great, cocktails are far too sweet.
The pool area although clean is very cramped and has huge umbrellas for everyone to share so if you want to sunbathe you don’t have a choice if the brolly happens to be in the way as it can’t be moved. Not enough sun beds for the amount of people and people were going down super early to claim a sunbed and then disappeared for most of the day.
Location although states 10mins walk to the beach is more of a 15-20min walk.
Overall would not stay again.

Absolute Perfection - Highly Recommend!
I stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights, and it was hands down the best hotel experience I've ever had. My package included breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all drinks at the bar, and I was blown away by the quality of the food everything was delicious.
The hotel was incredibly clean and well maintained. What impressed me most was the staff. Despite the high number of guests, the service was seamless and efficient. Every single staff member was exceptionally kind, especially the bartenders who always had a smile on their faces despite being so busy. I was so impressed by the management that I even wondered who the owner was. If you're looking for a flawless stay, this is the place!

Hotel is lovely. About an hour from the airport. Staff are friendly and helpful. We are in a 1 bedroom apartment/junior suite. Rooms are bit dated but tidy and in good repair. WiFi, kitchenette, bathroom all functional. Bed was comfortable.
All inclusive restaurant has excellent food, good selection available dinner doesn't open until 7pm but snacks available through out day. Pool was warm, small park for the kids along with a kids club.
Definitely worth a visit and would stay again. A little ways from the beach but they have shuttle available daily to and from. But that seems to be the only downside. Plenty of loungers available on our visit but maybe a little limited in peak season.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Albufeira Sol Hotel and Spa, and we had a great time. We are both in our twenties, and the hotel had a really relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere throughout our stay.
The animation team were friendly and made the experience fun, but one of the biggest highlights was definitely the homemade pancakes and crêpes. They were absolutely amazing, and the lady who made them was fantastic.
The all-you-can-eat food was perfect for us, the drinks were decent, and overall the hotel had great vibes. The location was also excellent, making it easy to enjoy the local area.
I would definitely recommend Albufeira Sol Hotel and Spa for young couples looking for a fun, relaxed holiday in a great location.
