The hotel was very accommodating to our needs. I was also impressed that even late at night in July, they were able to get me parking in their underground lot. We arrived at the hotel after midnight.
I saw some negative reviews about their breakfast, and I have to say those people must be crazy picky. I thought the food was quite good. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The beach is right across the street, and the sand is perfect. The ocean water is warm but much cooler than outside.
Malaga (the city) itself has an interesting smell, kind of like moldy blankets, but the hotel air was clear, fortunately. If you have problems with the smell in other hotels, try this one. They can't do anything about the city, obviously, but the hotel was very nice.

Rooms are clean but a little dated (but that's not the end of the world). Everything else has been perfect, staff were attentive and the location has calm beaches with what seems to be a larger proportion of locals. Oh, and good food options from Fresh fish on the beach and Asian noodle bars to Burger King and KFC. Thoroughly enjoyed.

During all our trips we booked cheap and more expensive hotels. What did they have in common? They offered a small bottle of drinkable water in the room. Not here!
Only when you book a Superior room you are entitled to have a 0.75 EUR water, otherwise you will be charged 3,50 EUR. So, no matter the scorching temperature, or long trip you have had. You gotta buy your water! No basic hospitality here!
I´m just wondering: Why not increasing the 160 EUR/night room price with 2 EUR and give travellers this feeling of welcome, instead of an unfriendly charge for drinkable water?
When checking at the reception desk they referred to this as "It´s our Policy". I thought Hospitality was the only policy in this business ;-)

Having found this trip via a loveholidays deal, I wasn’t expecting too much from the hotel, but it’s been great. Sea view from the room, right next to a huge park/nature reserve, as well as the beach being across the road. Loads of restaurants and cafes nearby, a 40mins-ish walk down the beach into the city centre. Just ideal for a city-break/beach-holiday rolled into one.
Reception provide beach towels if you are heading to the beach, and all necessities (e.g., toothbrush, paste, shampoo, etc) are provided in the rooms. Staff are all super helpful. Being vegan, I’ve never stayed in a hotel abroad where we could actually order vegan room service - but they have a burger, a noodle dish and a vg pizza on the menu here, so we made sure to order room service for our final meal here.
Already planning our next visit because Malaga has been amazing, and will 100% be staying at the Catalonia again.

A disappointing booking experience. The hotel claims “no prepayment needed” and “free cancellation” on Booking.com, but attempts to charge your card multiple times when the booking is still 2 months ahead. Then the hotel cancels the booking after failing to get the first night payment.
