I recently stayed at Malia Bay Beach Hotel in Crete with an all-inclusive package. The location is good, and the variety of food was nice since there was something different every day. The head chef seemed to do his best, and you could sometimes get freshly prepared dishes if you arrived later.
However, several aspects did not meet my expectations for a hotel advertised as 4 stars. After 11 PM, even water had to be paid for, which I find very disappointing for an all-inclusive stay. Drinks were charged around 5€ after that time, which seemed excessive.
The food itself was often displayed in advance, so if you didn’t come early, it was usually cold. While the meals were varied, the taste did not compare to what you can find in local restaurants.
Housekeeping is a real downside—towel changes and toilet paper refills were poor. After four days we only received two out of three fresh towels, which is unacceptable in my opinion. The room also looked rushed in construction, paint over wood, mold in the bathroom, and overall not what you would expect from a proper 4-star hotel.
Overall, I would personally rate this hotel around 2.5 stars, not 4. The staff were friendly and even asked guests to write positive reviews, but the reality is mixed. While the variety of dishes and the effort of the chef were positives, the service, room quality, and “all-inclusive” conditions left much to be desired.

We stayed at this hotel in the penultimate week of the season so had the benefit of great weather at a quieter time. The hotel is located a good 30/45 min walk from the main hustle and bustle of Malia with very little nearby (although a nearby restaurant by the port and Eva Taverna are worth venturing out to, both only 10/15 min walk).
The hotel itself is very clean, with good size pools and plenty of sunbeds (with a strict "no reserving sunbeds" policy). It's perfectly located next to the beach which again, was very quiet at this time of year. Be prepared to pay extra for sunbeds on the beach, although we didn't bother - the sand was perfectly comfortable.
If there's any room for improvement, I'd suggest that the hotel invest in some decent, brand name soft drinks - the cola on offer, for instance, wasn't great.
However, it's by far the staff that make this hotel standout from other holidays. Special call-outs to George, Kalimera and Stella on the front desk with their welcoming smiles (and thanks to Stella for the late checkout), to Karim and Hassan in the restaurant who we very much enjoyed chats with every mealtime ("Shukran!"), to George the live-grill chef who was always so friendly (and a great singer), despite having been working long hours, and the effervescent, vibrant Hope in the main bar who went beyond being a bartender - she brought the bar alive and made us feel like we were part of a private party (thanks for all the coffee liqueurs and cocktails, Hope!). We were sorry to say goodbye to everyone....
This hotel is ideal for a quiet break away from it all.

We had an amazing stay at Malia Bay Hotel! From the very first moment, the staff made us feel so welcome 😊. At check-in, we were pleasantly surprised with a free upgrade from a standard room to a bigger, more modern, and beautifully designed one – what a wonderful start to our holiday! 🏖️✨
The reception team was incredibly kind, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. The restaurant staff also deserve a big compliment – so friendly, attentive, and they really created a warm atmosphere every single day 🍴❤️.
The food was delicious with plenty of variety, fresh ingredients, and something for everyone. We truly enjoyed every meal 😋.
Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. Fantastic service, lovely people, and great food – we couldn’t have asked for more. Highly recommended and we would definitely love to come back! 🌞💙

Hotel staff are amazing, food good service excellent. The only things I would question is having one person behind the main bar and some times no glasses ( disposable plastic cups) error no and a two drink limit ( Not good if your a family of 4 , join the queue again !! Bar staff and restaurant staff are amazing and work their backsides off to please, entertainment of some sorts nearly everynight , everywhere spotless , great beach ( shame you have to pay extra for beds) but its worth it. Pool bar great and unlimited snacks of good quality, if your expecting softdrinks or mixers to taste anywhere close.forget it, I think a few extra pennies providing reasonable cola ,sprite etc the hotel should invest apart from that a great place to stay and well worth the money

The stay at Malia Bay was excellent. We had a modern room with the view of the sea and pool. Food was delicious and we enjoyed variety of meals. Stuff is friendly and tries their best to make your holiday even better.
The only inconvenience is that the city Malia is far from the hotel, about 40 minutes walk.
