The hotel is very clean, and all the staff are extremely friendly. The reception team is especially helpful. They even assist with booking a rental car.
The food and drinks at the restaurant, café, and bar are excellent. The buffet, both in the morning and in the evening, is varied and very tasty.
The pools are very well maintained, and the outdoor pool and sun loungers are in excellent condition. The fitness room is also quite well equipped for a hotel and gives a clean, well-kept impression.
We would definitely recommend this hotel.

This was our second stay at Theartemis Palace, and we specifically chose to return because we genuinely loved our first experience here. Unfortunately, this visit was quite disappointing and felt like a completely different experience from the hotel we previously enjoyed.
There are still positives worth mentioning. The staff were still friendly and polite throughout the stay, and we appreciate that. We also noticed the renovations around the hotel, which look fantastic and definitely improve the overall appearance of the property. The gym is also much better than before, which we really enjoyed using, and we appreciated being able to request access beyond 6pm. The hotel location also remains excellent and is one of the main reasons we chose to return.
We understand that we booked a basic room, however for a 4-star hotel the room felt quite outdated and below expectations. The bathroom shower leaked every time it was used, which became frustrating throughout the stay.
The room safe also felt extremely outdated, requiring a physical lock and key system with an additional daily rental charge (around €4 per day), which honestly felt surprising and unnecessary for a hotel of this standard.
Housekeeping was also somewhat inconsistent during our 9-night stay — on some occasions used cups were not replaced.
Breakfast was okay overall and there was a decent variety available, however after multiple days it became very repetitive. We also noticed that fresh fruit options were fairly limited, with much of the fruit being canned and usually only a small selection of fresh fruit available.
We do also want to mention the late checkout situation specifically, as this unfortunately ruined the end of the holiday for us. The day before checkout, we politely asked reception whether a late checkout until 1pm would be possible. The receptionist agreed and appeared to make a note of it, so we believed this had been confirmed.
However, the following morning at around 11am, we received a call from reception reminding us that checkout time was 11am. We explained that we had already arranged a 1pm late checkout with reception the previous day. Around 30 minutes later, we received another phone call asking again whether we would be leaving before 1pm, despite us already explaining the situation during the first call.
Then around 10 minutes later, someone physically came to our room to ask the same question again and asked us to leave the room door open so the cleaners could access the room. This felt very uncomfortable and honestly quite stressful, especially as during the previous 9 days of our stay we had never once been asked to leave the door open for housekeeping access.
If the hotel was unable or unwilling to provide a late checkout, we would have completely understood and appreciated a simple refusal from the start. Instead, the way the situation was handled left us feeling rushed and pressured during the final hours of our holiday.
What made it even more disappointing was that during checkout itself, nobody asked how our stay was or whether everything had been okay.
As returning guests, this experience was genuinely upsetting because we had such fond memories of our first stay here. Sadly, due to this experience, we do not feel we would return again. We sincerely hope future guests do not have a similar experience.

Wonderful stay at Theartemis Palace Hotel. Had a standard twin room which was spacious and well thought out. Lovely touches like dressing gowns and slippers in the room along with plenty of hanging space for clothes. Staff at this hotel are always smiling and engaging with conversation and helpful information on the beautiful town of Rethymno. Daniella and Stratos served us many times in the restaurant and always took time to speak with us. Stayed half board with a great choice of freshly cooked meals/salads/fresh fruits and so many desserts 🍨. The location of the hotel was perfect for us as we liked the 15-20 minute stroll along the promenade to the old town. Definitely recommend this hotel and will stay again. Thank you.

I stayed here on a business trip and had a great experience overall. The staff were amazing - very friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. The food was very good; while the selection wasn’t huge, everything was fresh and delicious.
We stayed in one of the rooms outside the main building (which I understand is the older section). The room itself was clean, comfortable, and serviced daily. The only downside was the sound insulation, which could be improved.
The location is very convenient - about a 15-minute walk to the main street and only 2 minutes from the beach. Despite being close to the road, it was quiet at night and easy to rest.
The hotel also offers an excellent conference complex - modern, well-equipped, and perfect for business meetings or events.
Overall, I’d rate my stay 5 stars for the outstanding service and professionalism of the staff. A great choice for both business and leisure travelers.

What an exceptional experience. I would rate this hotel and its staff 6 if I could. I have never experienced such an exceptional service and I have been to many 5 star luxury hotels. From Stella at the reservations department who went out of her way to accommodate the so many changes in our itinerary to the reception staff who assisted with my granddaughter who got very sick while we were there and arranged a paediatrician and a taxi to get us to the dr and there empathetic concern to her not being well. The staff in the breakfast room that went out of their way to greet us by our names and showed so much love to my granddaughter daily. The room service that cooked special food for my 10month old granddaughter daily. The cleanliness and their ability to address any issues that came up. The food was exceptional and their ability events every night so tastefully thought of. I would never stay anywhere else when in Rethymno. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to have a stay in Rethymno that is 6 star level . Thank you to all the staff for a memorable experience .
