We just finished our family holiday at Iberostar Waves Málaga Playa, and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. The standout feature of this hotel is undoubtedly its staff—they are incredibly warm, attentive, and helpful across the entire property.
Traveling with strict dietary restrictions can often be stressful, but the team here made us feel completely safe and cared for. The kitchen staff is highly trained and precise about preventing cross-contamination. Every single dish had clear, accurate allergen information, which gave us total peace of mind. They went above and beyond to accommodate gluten-free needs—preparing delicious gluten-free pizzas, cakes, and even offering to cook separate gluten-free pasta on request. A special shout-out to the incredible team working at the grill, who were exceptionally friendly and accommodating every single day!
The excellent service extended well beyond the restaurant. The staff working around the pool area and the pool bar were always welcoming, smiling, and ready to help. On top of that, our room was cleaned beautifully every single day without fail.
Thank you to the entire Iberostar team for making our holiday so relaxing and memorable. We will definitely be back!

If you are travelling with young children in the hope of enjoying a carefree holiday where you can rely on your hotel for accurate local guidance and genuine support when things go wrong, this may not be the right hotel for you.
We chose Iberostar Waves Málaga Playa because we had previously enjoyed another Iberostar resort and expected the same family-friendly hospitality. Instead, this hotel completely changed our perception of the Iberostar brand.
This review is not about one isolated incident. Looking back, the same pattern appeared from the reservation stage to the handling of our formal complaint: staff repeatedly responded before understanding our questions, important information provided by the hotel turned out to be incomplete, and when problems arose, the priority seemed to be protecting the hotel’s position rather than helping its guests.
The warning signs appeared before we even arrived. I contacted the hotel about a paid suite upgrade, yet my emails were repeatedly answered with irrelevant template replies about complimentary upgrades on arrival. My membership status was not recognized even I mentioned already, my name was written incorrectly, and nobody seemed to have actually read what I had asked. Only after I sent a much firmer email did another staff member resolve the request within minutes. The solution had always been available. The problem was that nobody had taken the time to understand the question.
Unfortunately, the same attitude continued throughout our stay. We relied on information provided by the hotel, only to discover later that it was incomplete, resulting in a situation that seriously disrupted our family holiday. What disappointed us most was not the incident itself, but the response afterwards. The first reaction was not “How can we help?”, but “This is not our responsibility” and “There is no solution.” Even after submitting a formal complaint, the replies continued to focus on liability rather than reflecting on whether the hotel’s own service had fallen short.
The dining experience was equally disappointing. During our five-night stay, seafood was almost non-existent except for one evening with oysters. The prawns in the seafood paella were not fresh, the papaya was bitter, the strawberries were canned rather than fresh, and the coffee was among the poorest we have experienced at any resort. One café staff member even advised us not to order one particular drink because previous guests had repeatedly described it as “terrible.” Even the apple juice was carbonated, making it unsuitable for young children.
We have stayed at many resorts, including several Iberostar properties, and have never encountered such a disappointing service standard.
A hotel is judged not by how it behaves when everything goes smoothly, but by how it responds when guests need help. Unfortunately, this hotel consistently chose to explain why it was not responsible instead of asking how it could help. That is why we cannot recommend it.

Our 6th visit to this wonderful hotel. This time 7 of us stayed. During the holiday our grandson had his 13th birthday. The staff were wonderful, leaving treats and non alcoholic bubbly in the room, and a birthday cake, and decorated table in the restaurant. Even sung Happy Birthday to him. Such a wonderful memory. The hotel was as usual immaculate, all the staff, even the ones we dont see, work so hard to make our holiday. Will definately be back.

I spent one week with my teen kid. We enjoyed our stay a lot. What we like the most were hotel activities: morning aerobics, aqua-gym, life music and dancing, shooting, bingo you name it. Every day there was something nice to participate to. Also food was amazing, great selection of dishes followed by faboulous dessert table with fresh fruits, ice cream and pastry. Fantastic!

We had a great stay!
The hotel is very family-friendly and perfect for kids. The pool area is really nice, and the beach is directly next to the hotel. The food was nice. We also enjoyed the evening entertainment and animation program.
Probably not our last stay.
