St Julian's Bay
Think of bougainvillea-clad buildings, a fishing village atmosphere, and a pretty, floodlit harbour. Combine this with a modern tourist appeal and you have the charming St Julian's Bay a popular Maltese holiday area. Beaches are aplenty with the rocky shores of Sliema, and the sandy beach of St George's Bay. Nightlife, family entertainment, restaurants and bars, water sports and horse-riding, the list is endless on a St Julian's break. Parts of the bay retains the old sleepy village style, Spinola Bay for example is a great place for sampling traditional Maltese cuisine, but continue on and the tourism trend has provided an abundance of cafes, clubs and shopping options. Paceville and its animated nightlife is within walking distance and St George's is close by too. Set on the eastern side of the island, St Julian's Bay attracts visitors year after year for the excellent choice of things to see and do.
There are a few lidos in St Julian's for sunbathing and the shore itself plays host to many water sports, water-polo and scuba diving centres where snorkelling can also be enjoyed. Boat trips are in abundance and as for shopping, well the Bay Street complex will perfectly serve your needs. Amusement arcades and cinemas, restaurants and discos, it's all for the taking as part of a great Malta holiday.

This is a lovely hotel in a quiet area of St. Julians. Rooms are spacious but the bathroom in the standard room is quite small. Pool area is clean, could do with a few more parasols, but staff are happy to find one for you. Breakfast was excellent. Plenty of choice & very fresh. There are some lovely restaurants 5 minutes walk from the Hotel. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. I had a hair appointment at the hotel spa, and Carmen was lovely & did a really good wash & blow. Would recommend.

There was a small delay in receiving our room at check-in, but the staff were very friendly, helpful, and did their best to assist us.
What we appreciated most was the food. The buffet was not very large, but everything available was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. You could really taste the quality in each dish.
Despite the small issue at the beginning, we had a pleasant stay and would definitely come back again.

Staff very friendly! The place is quiet, clean and has a marvelous sea view! The breakfast is súper complete and offers lactose free - gluten free options. The only thing I would complain is that I requested a manicure and the original price was supposed to be 10€, but then they ended up charging me 25€, saying that my service was different. I just recommend they are clearer when explaining the services.

Possibly the best location in Malta. Overlooking Spinola Bay and Balluta Bay at the front and Portomaso to the rear. Buses are a short walk away. If you are coming by car parking is very limited.
There's a weird sort of 70's futurism vibe going on. The check-in desks are straight out of Buck Rodgers.
Staff are polite but not particularly friendly. I wouldn't say unfriendly but neutral.
My Room was clean, comfortable and looked amazing. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was showing a little wear and tear (cracked and chipped sink). There was a weird chair, in the 70s future style which is by far the most uncomfortable thing I've sat on. And, I rode road racing bikes back in the 90s.
Breakfast was a bit hit and miss. I didn't try everything but some of the hot food was cold, and there's no warmed plates to put food on.
The outdoor pools looked popular. There is an indoor pool. There is a gym but it was out of use on my visit.
I had no issues with noise in my room. There was a loud vehicle in the street early in the morning
For £64.00 for 2 bed and breakfast mid April 2026 it was ok. I'd stay again

Fabulous position overlooking St Julian's bay and the marina and from the outside, the hotel looks very classy. Inside however is a different story. The hotel is let down by the dull and basic furnishings, the ongoing issues with the lifts (only one decent one working) and one in a state of disrepair. It was very slow and I'd have hated to be using them in high season. The staff lacked basic communication skills and looked miserable, although the lady who cleaned our room and spoke no English had a lovely smile. The bathroom was very small for a superior room, with a walk in shower which was very temperamental in getting the temperature right. Views were amazing and about the best part. We didnt use the pools, as outdoor was too cold (December) and indoor was very underwhelming. Breakfast was plentiful, with a good selection of hot/cold but the plastic chairs again gave a very basic feel to the dining area. The patio doors in all the areas of the hotel were very stiff and difficult to move. The air con in the room did not work. Room safe required swiping of a card and the condiments in the room were very sparce. Overall, its rated as 4 star for the facilities but did not have the feel of a 4 star, more 3. Disappointing but did the job for a 2 night stay. Don't think I'd return.

First time in Malta and booked Mercure Hotel in St. Julian, it was a great experience exploring the country and having to stay in this wonderful hotel. Starting from the lobby, where me got this great reception from the staff from the day one. Really helpful, warm and kind people to the last day.
The hotel was very clean and tidy the room was big enough, very clean also. The hotel was in a great location where you can get easily to the other cities like Sliema, Valetta and a great destination to enjoy the sea-sight or eat at great restaurant and other food places.
I recommend it to everyone who would like to experience this country in Mediteran.

We stayed here for 4 nights and overall had a very pleasant experience. (2 people)
The hotel in my opinion is in a great spot . Everything is nearby which I loved as a tourist s. Although it’s close to a busy road, the beach and shoreline are only about a 10 minute walk away. There are plenty of restaurants, souvenir shops, and cafés around, plus Mercury Tower and two shopping malls within walking distance. Public transport is very convenient, with a bus stop right next to the hotel.
Getting to the capital takes around 15 minutes and costs about €7 via Bolt.
The rooms are modern, clean, and have a luxurious feel. Ours included two rooms and a small balcony. The room was well equipped with shampoo, body wash, soap, and a coffee machine, which I loved.
The balcony view wasn’t anything special due to the outside construction (second floor) and the noise started early (around 7 a.m.). This was clearly outside the hotel’s control, and we appreciated that earplugs were provided.
One small but lovely detail was the pleasant aroma throughout the hotel and on the floors, perhaps it was just for personal reference. Staff were friendly and helpful, and we were allowed to leave our luggage at the hotel after check-out until our bus to the airport.
Breakfast was good overall. The selection can feel a bit repetitive, but everything we tried tasted nice. The desserts were especially delicious.
Also, since we were in February, it wasn't the warmest, but we still went to check out the pool. I recommend for the view.

This Mercure hotel is a lovely hotel. It's in a great location, the facilities are excellent and all the staff that we encountered were very friendly.
Yes there is construction works that are right next to the hotel which will disturb people who want to stay in bed after 7am. Lucky for us we are early birds and up and out early so it didn't impact us. I can see why there are numerous 1* reviews recently. A laminated sheet in the room apologising for the construction works and supplying cheap ear plugs wouldn't really help the situation. I cant believe that a hotel brand like Mercure have shot themselves in the foot and embarrassed themselves by not letting customers know of the construction works before arrival and not offered anything else complimentary such as drinks or meal voucher to apologise. I suppose they were waiting for customers to complain first which is very reactive to the situation. We did feel that every corner you turn on the island there was some sort of construction works going on as the island is developing at a fast pace.
Overall we were very happy with our stay at the Mercure but did see lots of unhappy customers.

The room was on the 10th floor with a lovely balcony and beautiful view. The large bed and well fitting curtains ensured a good night's sleep until 0730 (when local builders started work). The sofa in the sitting area was comfortable and the smart tv enabled the use of one's Netflix membership. The tv in the bedroom area was larger and maybe they should be swapped. The bathroom area was well equipped but the freestanding bath was in the bedroom area to take advantage of the view (maybe not to everyone's liking). The towels were "scratchy" but the consumables were very pleasant. We found that "storage" was problematic. There was a hanging rail with a few hangers. The were no drawers, hooks, or any other way of storing clothes. I really don't enjoy living out of a suitcase for 7 nights ! The bathroom was separated from the other areas by a glass wall and sliding glass door, supposedly made of privacy glass. Unfortunately it does not achieve this ! I get very little pleasure watching anyone emptying their bowels ! Tea/coffee was fine. The fridge wasn't working when we arrived and took around 24 hours to get it fixed / replaced. The lounge and gym were fine. The description on the All website refers to a "restaurant" but I was told it didn't exist ?? Breakfast was served in the lower ground floor .... quite comfortable, no windows and rather cave like ! The food was reasonable but lacked the provision of prepared fruit. The hot food resembled that in other Mercure hotels. Overall reasonable but not memorable. The staff were very helpful and the room was serviced quickly and efficiently. Overall, it was a reasonable experience but at 300 euros/night I expected more.

Excellent location, everything is very close. The place is clean, tidy, and well-maintained. Comfortable beds and extremely friendly, helpful staff. A completely stress-free stay from start to finish. The property is accessible 24/7 and offers on-site parking, with no additional parking fees. Overall, a fantastic place, highly recommended.

I had an amazing stay at this hotel with my 7-year-old! The staff were incredibly friendly and always ready to help, especially Leah, who made our stay very comfortable and welcoming. The rooms were spotless, the hotel was super clean, and the ocean view from our room was absolutely breathtaking. My son loved the spacious room and the kid-friendly atmosphere. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of tasty options that we both enjoyed every morning. Highly recommend this hotel for families looking for a relaxing stay with excellent service, beautiful views, and a welcoming environment for kids. Thank you Team Westin and especially to Leah :).. God bless

What a wonderful place. From the moment of our arrival, we felt very welcome, and the staff took good care of us. They were so friendly to us as a family, caring about our kids, and giving us the best time. The location is perfect, located in the heart of St. Julian's, a 5-minute walk to the famous Mercury Tower and Portomaso. We will definitely come back. Such a nice hotel in Malta. I can fully recommend the place.

Stayed 8 nights here in Feb. The service was excellent, everyone friendly and happy to help. Our room was lovely, although in the new block so a bit of a walk round. The air in the rooms was quite dry and it was difficult to get the right balance with the aircon.
Used the indoor and outdoor pool during the stay. They say heated but could do with being a bit warmer. The inside whirlpool was quite cold and the jets quite aggressive!
Had the breakfast one morning. Pricey but an amazing choice. Plenty of cold and hot options. You definitely wouldn’t get bored if you had it everyday!
The location is pretty convenient. Bus stop outside to get to Valletta and plenty of restaurants and things close by.
The chocolate cake from the lounge was delicious.

Beautiful place and the most welcoming staff I have ever experienced. The hotel itself is very beautiful and has an amazing view. It truly felt like home, even more than that. Zaid was amazing. He checked me in and took care of us throughout our whole stay, together with Kapil. At checkout, Aarti was also very kind and helpful. We celebrated my mother’s birthday, and we were welcomed with birthday amenities and warm wishes, which made it very special.
At breakfast, Suru took such good care of us with the biggest smile and genuine warmth each day. The whole breakfast team, Parmod, Rhaden, Saroj, Sean Paul, Sushma, and Santosh, were amazing every single day. They always welcomed us with genuine smiles and warmth.
I also want to mention the excellent service from the managers on duty, Ashish Lama and Ahmed Aboushall. They made sure to check on every guest and took care of all feedback and needs. I was impressed with the way they take care of their guests.
Housekeeping was also 10/10, truly five star service.
Thank you dearly to everyone! Because of the team’s attention to detail and genuine hospitality, I will definitely visit again.

I recently stayed at the Westin Dragonara in Malta and had a mixed experience.
The hotel itself is beautiful and offers true 5-star amenities. The property is well maintained, the breakfast buffet was very nice with a good variety, and the location is excellent—close to nightlife, restaurants, and entertainment. Having the casino right next door is also a plus for those who enjoy that.
However, the biggest downside was the lack of individual air conditioning control. The hotel operates on a central system that switches between heat or AC depending on the season. During our stay, it was warm during the day, but AC was not available. We were advised to open the balcony doors for ventilation, which was not a realistic solution due to constant noise from children screaming at the pool below noted the entire day. This made it very difficult to sleep comfortably or even feel like the room was breathable.
We were later told that only luxury suites have proper air conditioning control, which is disappointing for a hotel of this caliber.
Overall, while the hotel delivers on amenities, location, and service, I would rate it closer to a 4-star experience due to the inability to sleep comfortably and the lack of climate control in standard rooms. If you’re sensitive to noise or heat, I strongly recommend booking a luxury suite—or considering another property.
Activities
Just as you would expect from a holiday resort there are countless options for dining, shopping and sightseeing. Combining the areas of Paceville for high-energy nightlife, St George's Bay for its discos and bars, and the beaches of St George and Sliema, it will easily fill your days and nights alone. But for a more traditional or laid-back approach to a St Julian's holiday, wander over to Spinola Bay. It makes up part of this area and is a great location for sampling the excellent Maltese cuisine followed by a stroll on the harbour past colourful fishing boats, evidence of St Julian's old way of life.
Day trips to Valletta are a must during your time here as the ancient history and inspiring architecture is considered by UNESCO to be one of the most concentrated areas of architectural importance.
